Trane Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. HVAC Project Developer. The Sr. HVAC Project Developer leads front-end project development by evaluating customer facility needs, conducting facility and project opportunity assessments, and developing strategic solutions tailored to customer objectives. This role advances opportunities through the development phase by partnering closely with Pre-Construction, Estimating, Project Management, and external partners to create scope, support contract development, and position projects for successful execution. Some travel is required within the Midwest, including occasional overnight stays.

What you will do:

  • Lead complex energy, infrastructure, and facility modernization opportunities from qualification through contract execution, delivering customer solutions aligned with their unique goals and priorities.
  • Evaluate mechanical, electrical, and building systems to identify operational risks, deferred maintenance, lifecycle opportunities, and capital improvement needs.
  • Partner with technical experts to develop solutions that align with customer objectives and project requirements. Solutions may include HVAC modernization, building automation and controls, energy efficiency improvements, facility renewal, deferred maintenance reduction, electrification, sustainability initiatives, resilience improvements, intelligent building technologies, renewable energy solutions, and other emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with designers, contractors, estimators, and operations teams to ensure solutions are practical and executable. Evaluate project phasing, constructability, implementation challenges, subcontractor approaches, risk factors, and execution strategies to improve project outcomes and reduce delivery risk.
  • Utilize knowledge of codes and standards to guide and confirm compliance of project solutions.
  • Manage project team when developing building solutions ensuring project costs and financials are accurate and coordinated amongst the team.
  • Manage external resources such as consultants, trade partners, and utility organizations assisting with developing energy and operational saving building solutions.
  • Develop compelling business cases for capital improvement projects by assessing lifecycle costs, funding strategies, energy performance, operational impact, and return on investment. Support customers in identifying value beyond energy savings, including operational performance, system reliability, risk mitigation, asset renewal, sustainability objectives, occupant experience, and broader organizational priorities.
  • Quantify and submit for utility rebates through coordination with utility partners.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert during customer presentations, design reviews, and solution discussions, while partnering with customers to prioritize capital investments based on business objectives, asset condition, operational risk, available funding, and sustainability goals. Lead workshops and planning sessions that help stakeholders understand solution benefits, implementation requirements, potential risks, and expected outcomes.
  • Ensure smooth project transitions through coordination with our Pre-Construction and Project Management teams.
  • Supports the onboarding and professional growth of new and early career team members.
  • Builds industry knowledge and professional connections through participation in technical organizations, including staying informed about innovative new product and system solutions.

What you will bring:

  • Subject matter expert in mechanical HVAC systems along with basic knowledge of energy, building design, estimating, and construction.
  • Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction or Engineering Technology, or other related areas; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Carless Driving, or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
