Overnight Rf Test Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Overnight RF Test Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Overnight RF Test Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, RF theory, troubleshooting, and often a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with RF test equipment (such as spectrum analyzers and network analyzers), automated test systems, and programming languages like Python or LabVIEW is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work independently during overnight shifts are essential soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate testing, timely issue resolution, and reliable operation of RF systems crucial for continuous production or research environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Overnight RF Test Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Overnight RF Test Engineers often face challenges such as troubleshooting complex equipment issues with limited immediate support, managing fatigue due to unconventional hours, and ensuring consistent communication with daytime teams. To address these, it's important to document test results thoroughly, establish clear handover procedures, and leverage remote support tools. Building strong relationships with both day and night shift colleagues can also help streamline problem-solving and maintain productivity.

What does an Overnight RF Test Engineer do?

An Overnight RF Test Engineer is responsible for testing and analyzing radio frequency (RF) components, systems, or devices during overnight shifts. Their duties include setting up test equipment, running diagnostic tests, troubleshooting performance issues, and documenting results to ensure systems meet technical specifications. Working overnight ensures continuous operations and helps companies meet tight production schedules. These engineers typically work in industries such as telecommunications, aerospace, or electronics manufacturing.

What is the difference between Overnight Rf Test Engineer vs Rf Test Technician?

AspectOvernight Rf Test EngineerRf Test Technician
CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related field, certifications may be preferredAssociate's degree or technical certification in electronics or RF testing
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, testing facilities, often overnight shifts for continuous testingTesting labs, production lines, hands-on testing environment
ResponsibilitiesDesigning, analyzing, and overseeing RF tests, troubleshooting complex issuesPerforming RF tests, recording data, maintaining test equipment

While both roles involve RF testing, the Overnight Rf Test Engineer typically handles complex testing procedures, analysis, and design oversight, often working overnight shifts. The Rf Test Technician focuses on executing tests, data collection, and equipment maintenance. The engineer role requires more advanced education and analytical skills, whereas the technician role emphasizes hands-on testing and operational tasks.

We combine product and technology leadership, systems-level expertise and global manufacturing scale to quickly solve our customers' most complex technical challenges. Qorvo serves multiple high-growth segments of large global markets, including consumer electronics, smart home/IoT, automotive, EVs, battery-powered appliances, network infrastructure, healthcare and aerospace/defense. Visit www.qorvo.com to learn how our innovative team is helping connect, protect and power our planet.

We're hiring an RF Test Development Engineer to join our High Performance Analog Product Development team, where you'll develop automated RF test solutions for products in the Aerospace and Defense markets. You'll architect and debug the full test stack, RF hardware (load boards/fixtures/contactors/switching) and automation software for instrument control. In this highly visible role, you'll define test plans, calibration methods, and documentation that enable smooth production transfer and long-term support.

This is an onsite role where the expectation is to be onsite five days a week at our Richardson TX office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and release automated RF semiconductor test solutions using VNAs, signal generators, power sensors, SMUs, and related instrumentation.
  • Define RF and DC measurement methodologies to ensure accurate, repeatable, and efficient production testing.
  • Design and support RF test hardware, including load boards, fixtures, test sockets, and interface cabling.
  • Perform measurement system analysis (GRR/ANOVA) to qualify production test capability.
  • Create and maintain test plans, calibration procedures, and production documentation.
  • Analyze large data sets to troubleshoot measurement issues, determine root cause, and implement corrective actions.
  • Support correlation between production (socketed) and design bench (soldered) performance.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Design, Product, Manufacturing) to develop and release robust test solutions.
  • Travel less than 10% domestically.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in RF test development or RF measurements.
  • Strong understanding of RF and DC measurement fundamentals.
  • Experience designing or troubleshooting RF test hardware (PCBs, connectors, RF signal paths).
  • Experience controlling instrumentation via SCPI, LAN, GPIB, or USB.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and device datasheets.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with a track record of driving issues to closure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience modifying code within C#, Python, or another programming language
