Job description
The Railroad Revenue Analyst programs and administers commercial contracts and rate authorities; ensures accurate, timely, and compliant invoicing; resolves rating and billing exceptions; and partners cross-functionally to protect revenue and uphold data quality and adherence to company/industry standards. The role owns the end-to-end revenue application lifecycle—contract setup, pricing and rating, invoice delivery, dispute resolution, data quality oversight, and continuous automation—across assigned railroads, customers, and lanes. The Analyst also provides analytical support to the Sales and Operations Team through targeted analysis and ad-hoc reporting. Success is measured by accuracy, timeliness, automation, data integrity and standards adherence, and improvements in dispute cycle time.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESContract & Rate Programming
- Translate commercial contracts and tariffs into system-ready rules; configure rate tables, accessorials, and fuel surcharge logic in revenue applications/TMS/ERP.
- Maintain rate authorities and ensure adherence to internal controls, data standards, AAR Accounting Rules, and ASC 606 requirements.
Revenue Application & Invoicing
- Execute automated rating; audit for missing, incorrect, or unbilled charges; deliver invoices accurately and on time.
- Monitor exception queues, investigate root causes, and implement durable solutions to minimize recurring issues.
Dispute Resolution & Collections Support
- Triage invoice disputes; validate contract/rule application; determine collectability vs. credit memo.
- Partner with Collections to accelerate cash, reduce DSO, and troubleshoot billing and pricing issues.
Waybill & Data Quality
- Ensure waybill, interchange, and industry reference data meet required accuracy standards to support correct rating and revenue recognition.
- Partner with Class I railroads, shippers, and internal teams to resolve data integrity issues (e.g., interchange errors, routing discrepancies, missing data elements).
- Maintain strict adherence to data governance rules, ensuring all data inputs and updates follow company and industry standards.
Contract Lifecycle & Renewal
- Prepare contract renewals and change orders; collaborate with Commercial on pricing strategy and deal structuring.
- Maintain clear and current desktop procedures for contract and revenue setup workflows.
Data Quality, Compliance & Adherence
- Own and champion data quality for assigned roads, customers, and revenue streams—ensuring all contract, rate, and shipment data is accurate, complete, consistent, and compliant.
- Enforce adherence to internal data standards, naming conventions, reference file alignment, and revenue system configuration rules.
- Perform routine audits to validate the integrity of rates, waybills, accessorials, and customer master data; remediate gaps and develop preventative solutions.
- Support ASC 606 readiness, internal audits, and process reviews by maintaining clean, well-documented data and workflows.
Reporting, Sales Support & Continuous Improvement
- Build and maintain dashboards (billing timeliness, accuracy, leakage, dispute cycle time, data quality metrics).
- Recommend and support automation and process improvements to reduce manual work and exception volume.
- Provide timely, accurate revenue analysis and ad-hoc reporting to the Sales Team and/or Operations team, including contract impact modeling, lane/commodity performance, pricing validation, and customer-specific insights.
- Partner with Sales to support pricing proposals, evaluate revenue opportunities, and strengthen customer-facing presentations with actionable data.
- Billing timeliness & accuracy
- Revenue leakage identified vs. recovered
- Dispute cycle time and resolution quality
- Automation rate and exception recurrence
- Data accuracy and adherence to standards (waybill accuracy, reference file alignment, contract setup precision)
- Quality and usefulness of Sales/Operations-supporting analysis
- None
- Bachelor’s degree or 3+ years of experience in railroad/transportation revenue, pricing, billing, or contract administration.
- Strong commitment to data accuracy, integrity, and adherence—demonstrated experience ensuring contract, rate, waybill, and revenue data are complete, consistent, and aligned with company and industry standards.
- Proven ability to identify data errors, trace root causes, and implement preventative solutions to improve long-term data quality.
- Experience translating commercial contracts into accurate rate programming with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Excel (vlookup/index-match, pivot tables, Power Query) and familiarity with BI tools for data validation and analysis.
- Working knowledge of railroad concepts: tariffs, waybills, interchange, accessorials, and revenue application.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret rules, investigate exceptions, and communicate clearly.
- Proven ability to work independently and take initiative to complete daily tasks, project work and ad hoc requests.

- Additional specific experience in Railroad or Logistics Revenue management total 5+ years.
