Job Summary

Supervises the quarry production process and the maintenance of mobile equipment used in the quarry and plant. Ensure compliance with mining plan and all applicable federal, state and county mining regulations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and insure the implementation of plant safety policies, goals and standards.
  • Complete periodic inspections and audits to verify compliance and hold individuals and your department accountable to established policies, goals, and standards.
  • Allocate sufficient resources (time and money) to support necessary safety task and safety awareness training.
  • Take an active and visible role in leading the safety activities in your department. Investigate and resolve any employee report of “unsafe work assignment.
  • Plans, directs and controls all operations involving the stripping, drilling, blasting, loading and delivering to stockpile of raw materials used to produce cement.
  • Requisitions necessary parts and explosives related to the quarry operations and supervises the receiving, storage and control.
  • Supervises the regular servicing of all quarry and plant mobile equipment and schedules preventive maintenance to minimize loss of operations.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Southdown's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Instructs employees in proper practices and procedures required to perform assignments within acceptable safety criteria and in accordance with necessary budgets, schedules and quality specifications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be capable of supervising a wide variety of operations being performed by other people to achieve a quality product within imposed constraints of time and costs.

  • Ability to participate in required overnight travel as needed
