Job Overview
Shriners Children's is seeking a per diem (PRN) Nurse Practitioner to join the Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) team at Shriners Children's Philadelphia. This provider will support the surgical and anesthesia teams by delivering safe, high-quality care to a diverse population of complex pediatric orthopedic patients during the pre-admission phase of the peri-operative experience.
In this role, the Nurse Practitioner will perform comprehensive pre-operative history and physical examinations, coordinate patient preparation for surgery, and support peri-operative risk assessment and planning under physician and anesthesia supervision. Responsibilities include ordering pre-operative labs, diagnostic tests, medications, and blood products in accordance with established pre-op protocols, as well as collaborating closely with anesthesia, surgical, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure patients are optimally prepared for surgery.
The ideal candidate will have extensive pediatric clinical experience, preferably in critical care settings such as the NICU or PICU, and will thrive in a collaborative, physician-led environment focused on high-acuity pediatric care. Shift availability is variable, with 8-hour shifts typically scheduled from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe and effective care to patients in the pre-admission phase of the peri-operative experience
  • Coordinate and control activities as it relates to the patient preparation for procedures
  • Monitor the delivery of care and coordination of activities as the patient moves through the pre-admission processes
  • Attend orthopedic, specialty outpatient clinics as assigned (coordinates surgeries, diagnostic studies, and follow-up with patients and families).
  • Obtain and document appropriate health histories and physical exams on patients
  • Order appropriate treatment and/or diagnostic studies
  • Make appropriate referrals as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Nursing or higher required
  • ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA (or equivalent) board certification as a PNP or FNP required
  • Active PA RN license required
  • Valid PA APRN license with prescriptive authority required
  • Active DEA license required
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Compassionate and mission-driven with strong critical thinking and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a Nurse Practitioner in pediatrics and/or pediatric critical care (PICU/NICU) highly preferred. New graduates will also be considered
The pay range for this position is $56.96 - $85.45. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
