Pre-Admission Testing Registered Nurse (PRN)

The job description for the Pre-Admission Assessment Nurse incorporates the summary and responsibilities of the Registered Nurse job description and the specific duties listed below. The job description for the Pre-Admission Assessment Nurse incorporates the summary description, responsibilities and qualifications from the registered nurse job description and adds the specific duties listed below. The Pre-Admission Assessment (PAT) Nurse reports to the Pre-Admission (PAT) Team Lead and the Clinical Nurse Manager (PAT, Scheduling, Pre-op, PACU).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works with Surgery Scheduler to maintain an accurate Operating Room (OR) schedule for the next surgery day, assigns patient arrival times and makes note of any specific surgeon or patient needs.
  • Pull charts and specific forms together. Assembles patient charts with appropriate orders and discharge instructions.
  • Answer any messages on voice mail.
  • Call patients to obtain an accurate pre-anesthesia health history, and documents in the medical record.
  • Work with anesthesia concerning any questions, problems or concerns pertaining to patients on the schedule.
  • Communicates with the Nurse Manger, anesthesia, scheduling and the pre-post op nurses about changes or patient concerns.
  • Make sure all patients for next day are called and charts are ready for day of surgery.
  • Ensure that the appropriate PAT has been ordered and is on the chart for surgery. Contacts ordering physician or anesthesia of abnormal critical findings.
  • Maintain up-to-date OR schedule.
  • Communicate with doctors and their offices concerning specific teachings and orders.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current licensure in this State as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
  • Intermittent physical mobility/activity including walking, standing, sitting, light lifting, pulling or pushing carts, charts and equipment. Must be able to bend body downward at the waist and be able to kneel.
