This position involves regular travel to client facilities (typically within driving distance) for on-site troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, system upgrades, emergency response, and scheduled service visits. - Must be physically able to lift and carry 40 lbs repeatedly
- Comfortable working from heights (ladders, scissor lifts, platforms) and in confined spaces
- Able to safely work on live control panels while wearing proper arc flash PPE and following NFPA 70E protocols
- Candidate must maintain a valid driver’s license with no major infractions
- Candidate must maintain a valid REAL ID driver’s license or other TSA-approved identification
What you will be doing at Woodard & Curran:
  • Rapidly troubleshoot and repair PLCs (primarily Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix), OITs/HMIs (PanelView, FactoryTalk View ME/SE, Red Lion, etc.), instrumentation, and plant-floor networks in live production environments
  • Diagnose and repair motor controls including VFDs (ABB, Danfoss, Yaskawa, Siemens, etc.), soft starters, across-the-line starters, and reduced-voltage starters
  • Maintain and troubleshoot radio telemetry systems (NextGen Viper SCADA radios, MDS, Data-Linc, licensed/unlicensed spread-spectrum, cellular modems)
  • Perform loop checks, sensor calibration, transmitter replacement, valve/actuator repairs, and control panel wiring modifications
  • Execute field upgrades, I/O expansions, radio path studies, antenna replacements, and minor PLC logic or HMI screen changes while minimizing plant downtime
  • Remotely monitor assets across multiple facilities, spot performance issues, and schedule or perform corrective actions
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, system backups, basic disaster-recovery tests, and firmware/security updates on field devices
  • Thoroughly document all work including service tickets, root-cause analysis reports, as-built drawings, infrastructure inventories, and system changes
  • Respond to emergency situations, provide 24/7 on-call support (rotational), and participate in rapid-response fieldwork when required
What you will need to succeed:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on field experience with PLCs and VFDs in industrial or municipal environments
  • Proficiency with Rockwell PowerFlex, Danfoss, ABB, and similar variable frequency drives
  • Experience with Ethernet/IP, managed/unmanaged switches, and basic network troubleshooting
  • Skilled in modifying HMIs (PanelView, FactoryTalk View ME/SE, Red Lion, etc.) and tuning PID loops
  • Strong understanding of industrial power distribution (480 V–15 kV medium/low voltage systems)
  • Ability to read, interpret, and red-line P&IDs, loop sheets, and electrical wiring diagrams

  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety protocols, LOTO, arc-flash hazard recognition, and NFPA 70E compliance
