Job Summary:
Manage the operation of the packaging machines, accepting and loading product into the machine, monitoring the packaging operators, verifying finished products and ensuring quality and safety in the production process.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Daily operation of the packing or processing machines, including developing an expert knowledge in their mechanisms and in their operation.
  • Ensuring the quantity of the product received from bulk storage matches the traveler's report (the amount of product required for the production work order matches the amount of the product delivered to the packaging work area).
  • Loading product into the machine.
  • Observing the machine during production to make sure that the product is being processed through the machine effectively and efficiently.
  • Managing the process to make sure that there is minimal waste/loss of product during the production process.
  • Observing personnel packing cases to make sure the proper number of packages are packed in each box.
  • Verifying the raw product does not have any metal or foreign objects, and following prescribed procedures if any abnormalities are identified.
  • Verifying weights of raw product and ensuring proper weights in packages produced.
  • Verifying ingredients loaded into the packaging machines matches the ingredients on the production work order and printed on the packaging.
  • Counting the number of cases produced, calculating the waste and explaining any discrepancies which exceed the normal expectations for waste.
  • Write number of cases produced on the traveler report.
  • Maintain and repair equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure all employees working on the machines are using prescribed safety standards.
  • Ensure cleanliness of production area and production machines in compliance with food safety guidelines.
  • Obtain packaging material from supplies and load machine with film, ensuring film is proper for the product being produced.
  • Verifying all steps in the process with the Quality Assurance Department and the Production Manager upon completion of each work order.
  • All staff must report any known food safety issues to supervisor.
  • All staff has the authority to place on hold any products and/or equipment that do not meet Texas Star Nut and Food Co., Inc. food safety standards.
  • Cleaning/maintaining each machine as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be punctual and dependable
  • Must be able to work with and manage other personnel
  • Basic understanding of machinery
  • Able to perform basic mathematics operations
  • Must be able to comply with all safety and cleanliness requirements.

Abilities Required:
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders/steps and work on platforms
  • Ability to work on machinery, handle small tools and assembling/disassembling machinery

Salary Description
$17-$18/hr
