Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Production Operations III – Inventory Management & Control professional to support warehouse, logistics, and inventory operations in a fast-paced locomotive maintenance environment. This role is responsible for inventory accuracy, material planning, shipping and receiving, warehouse operations, and coordinating parts movement to support production while ensuring operational efficiency and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily inventory control activities and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Pull, issue, and stage materials for production while ensuring accurate material transactions.
- Perform daily cycle counts and investigate inventory discrepancies.
- Forecast material requirements for inbound and in-shop locomotive projects.
- Monitor stock levels, manage stock-outs, and coordinate replenishment activities.
- Receive, inspect, and process inbound shipments while ensuring documentation accuracy.
- Prepare outbound shipments, including LTL, expedited, and international shipments with appropriate shipping documentation.
- Process shipping transactions, Bills of Lading (BOLs), customs paperwork, and hazardous material documentation when required.
- Operate forklifts and conduct daily equipment inspections.
- Restock warehouse and production floor inventory.
- Process warranty claims and manage repair-cycle inventory.
- Track and report inventory performance metrics.
- Process material sales and maintain accurate Oracle inventory transactions.
- Read mechanical drawings to identify required materials.
- Coordinate physical inventory counts and warehouse audits.
- Respond to material requests from internal service locations and arrange shipments as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment.
- Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support additional warehouse, logistics, and production activities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or at least 2 years of recent relevant work experience.
- Previous experience in inventory control, logistics, warehouse operations, or shipping & receiving.
- Experience safely operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Basic mathematical and inventory reconciliation skills.
- Ability to work in a warehouse and shop environment.
- Flexible to work various shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Oracle ERP or similar inventory management systems.
- Knowledge of shipping documentation, Bills of Lading (BOL), customs, and hazardous materials shipping.
- Experience reading mechanical drawings or technical documentation.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, heavy equipment, railroad, or industrial operations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on concrete and uneven surfaces.
- Ability to climb stairs and safely access locomotives and elevated work areas.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move warehouse materials throughout the shift.
- Ability to work in confined or tight spaces when required.
- Frequent use of computers for inventory transactions and reporting.
- Must wear required PPE, including hard hat, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other safety equipment.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including overnight shifts, weekends, and consecutive workdays when required.
