New London Public Schools is seeking a highly motivated retired Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard Senior Enlisted member to fill a projected Naval Science Instructor (NSI) vacancy. Salary Range: $48,703- $100,722 per year
Employment Terms: Full-Time, 12-Month

About the Program: The NJROTC program at New London High School serves an average of 90 to 120 cadets. The school has established a close partnership with the Naval Submarine Base New London and the United States Coast Guard Academy, providing unique opportunities for students to engage with military professionals and participate in relevant activities. Applicants must be team-oriented and willing to work after school and on weekends. The school has a close connection with Naval Submarine Base New London and the United States Coast Guard Academy. The unit competes in academics, armed/unarmed drill, drones, and color guard.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Instruct cadets in naval science curriculum, including military history, leadership, citizenship, and physical fitness.
  • Develop lesson plans and engage students through innovative teaching methods.
  • Organize and lead after-school activities, drill practices, and community service projects.
  • Foster a positive and disciplined classroom environment that encourages teamwork and respect.
  • Collaborate with other faculty and staff to support cadet development and school initiatives.
  • Maintain communication with parents and guardians regarding cadet progress and program events.
  • Participate in training and professional development to stay current with NJROTC standards and practices.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must hold a valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) educator certificate with an endorsement in one or more of the following endorsement areas: 210 or 310 as applicable.
  • Retired Senior Enlisted personnel from the Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset and willingness to engage with the school community.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including after school and weekends.
  • Experience in teaching or mentoring youth is preferred but not required.
