Facilities and Maintenance Technician

POSITION:  Technician, Facilities - Maintenance

FUNCTION: Support the maintenance, repair, and overall upkeep of Sonoma Raceway facilities, grounds, and racing surfaces.

REPORTS TO: Operations Manager

JOB TYPE: Full-Time Hourly position

RATE: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour

POSITION LOCATION: Sonoma Raceway – Sonoma, CA

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Sonoma Raceway is seeking a Facilities and Maintenance Technician responsible for helping keep the road course, paddock, buildings, grounds, and other facility areas safe, maintained, and ready for daily operations such as NASCAR, NHRA, track rentals, and other events. This hands-on position supports the daily preparation of the property, routine facility and grounds maintenance, event setup, and venue turnover between events.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Prepare the road course, paddock and kart track for daily use.
  • Perform repairs to the racing surface, tire packs and barriers.
  • Ensure the track is clean and safe for the day’s scheduled activities.
  • Reconfigure the road course for upcoming events and activities.
  • Move furniture, paddock K-wall, and install signage in preparation for events.
  • Perform overnight turnovers as needed to prepare for clients.
  • Complete work orders across venue buildings including but not limited to lighting, minor sheetrock, painting, door hardware and ceiling tile repairs.
  • Proactively inspect facilities and identify maintenance or repair needs before they impact operations.
  • Maintain the raceway grounds through mowing, landscaping, seat cleaning, and sign installation/removal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on operational needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience in facilities maintenance, construction, landscaping, or a related field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Experience operating forklifts, tractors, lifts, or other heavy equipment preferred; training will be provided as needed.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work independently and identify maintenance needs with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on event and operational needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 80 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, and with appropriate assistance or equipment when necessary.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including over uneven terrain and throughout a large outdoor facility.
  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, push, and pull while completing maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to safely climb and work from ladders or elevated areas as required.
  • Ability to safely operate common hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.

SCHEDULE:

This is a full-time non-exempt role. This position generally works a 4-days-on, 3-days-off schedule, with scheduled days varying based on operational needs. Typical hours are 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional workdays or extended hours may be required based on event schedules and business needs. Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

TRAVEL: 

At times this role may be requested to travel to and perform work at other Speedway Motorsports locations and tracks.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

This position works in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments and may require extended periods of work outdoors in hot, cold, or inclement weather conditions. Employees regularly work with hand tools, power tools, maintenance equipment, and machinery and may work in areas where vehicles, heavy equipment, or other moving machinery are operating. The position may involve exposure to noise, dust, dirt, grease, fumes, chemicals, uneven or slippery surfaces, and other conditions commonly associated with facilities and maintenance work. Employees are expected to follow all established safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
