Job description

Ophthalmologist - Part-Time
Geriatric Telemedicine • Dallas, TX (Remote-Flexible)
Location: Dallas, TX (Telemedicine - work from anywhere in Texas)
Schedule: Part-Time • 1-2 days per week (flexible scheduling)
Population: Elderly & geriatric patients (65+)
Platform: Proprietary AI-assisted telemedicine platform
Type: Independent Contractor or Part-Time Employee (negotiable)
About the Role
We are seeking a board-certified Ophthalmologist to join our growing telemedicine practice serving elderly patients across the Dallas-Fort Worth area and broader Texas region. This is an ideal opportunity for a physician looking to maintain a meaningful clinical practice with maximum schedule flexibility-whether you are semi-retired, pursuing academic work, or balancing other professional commitments.
You will deliver consultations, second opinions, and follow-up care through our purpose-built telemedicine platform, which integrates proprietary AI tooling to assist with initial screening and diagnostic prioritization. Your clinical judgment remains central-the AI serves as a force multiplier, helping you focus your expertise where it matters most.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct video-based ophthalmic consultations with elderly patients referred through the platform, reviewing AI-generated pre-assessments as a clinical starting point.
• Review patient-submitted retinal images, OCT scans, and visual field data uploaded prior to each encounter; validate or override AI-generated findings with documented clinical reasoning.
• Diagnose and manage common geriatric eye conditions including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataracts, and dry eye disease.
• Prescribe medications, update care plans, and coordinate referrals to in-person surgical or urgent care as clinically indicated.
• Provide patient education adapted for older adults, including guidance on low-vision resources and fall-risk reduction.
• Collaborate with the care coordination team and primary care partners to ensure continuity of care for high-risk patients.
• Participate in periodic platform quality reviews and contribute clinical feedback to improve AI diagnostic accuracy over time.
• Maintain thorough, timely documentation in the EHR in compliance with Texas Medical Board standards and CMS guidelines.
Required Qualifications
• MD or DO with board certification in Ophthalmology (American Board of Ophthalmology).
• Active, unrestricted Texas medical license (or willingness to obtain prior to start).
• Minimum 3 years of post-residency clinical experience in ophthalmology.
• Experience or demonstrated comfort treating geriatric patients.
• Proficiency with telemedicine platforms and digital health tools; comfort interpreting remotely submitted imaging.
• Strong written communication skills for asynchronous patient documentation and care team coordination.
• Malpractice insurance coverage (tail coverage support negotiable).
Preferred Qualifications
• Fellowship training or subspecialty experience in retina, glaucoma, or neuro-ophthalmology.
• Prior experience with AI-assisted diagnostic workflows or interest in clinical AI applications.
• Background in geriatric medicine or experience working with memory care, assisted living, or skilled nursing populations.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus given Dallas-area patient demographics.
• DEA registration for controlled substance prescribing.
Our Platform & AI Technology
Our proprietary telemedicine platform is purpose-designed for specialty care delivery to older adults. Key capabilities include:
• AI-powered pre-visit screening: patients complete structured intake and upload fundus photos, OCT imagery, and visual acuity self-assessments before each encounter. The AI flags abnormalities and generates a structured clinical summary for your review.
• Integrated imaging viewer: side-by-side display of patient-submitted images with AI annotations, allowing rapid confirmation or override of preliminary findings.
• Accessible UX for elderly patients: large-format interface, caregiver co-access, and asynchronous messaging support ensure equitable access for the populations we serve.
• EHR integration and documentation assistance: AI-drafted SOAP notes based on encounter transcripts reduce documentation burden, ready for your review and attestation.
Full platform onboarding and training provided. Ongoing clinical informatics support available.
Schedule & Compensation
This role is designed for flexibility. You will commit to 1-2 clinical days per week (approximately 6-10 patient encounters per day), scheduled in coordination with our care team. Shift blocks are available Monday through Saturday, with no on-call or overnight obligations.
Compensation Structure
Base Rate: Competitive per-encounter or daily rate (commensurate with experience)
Structure: 1099 contractor or part-time W-2 (candidate preference)
Bonus Eligibility: Quality & patient satisfaction incentives available
CME Support: Annual CME stipend offered
Why Join Us
• Make a tangible impact on underserved elderly patients who face transportation and mobility barriers to traditional eye care.
• Work entirely remotely from anywhere in Texas - no commute, no hospital privileges required.
• AI tools handle documentation drafts and pre-screening, letting you spend your clinical time on complex decision-making and patient connection.
• Flexible scheduling with no nights, no weekends required, and no on-call obligations.
• Collaborative, physician-led culture with direct input into platform development and clinical protocols.
How to Apply
Please submit the following to our physician recruitment team:
• Current CV or resume
• Copy of Texas medical license (or documentation of pending application)
• Brief cover letter describing your interest in geriatric telemedicine and AI-assisted care
We review applications on a rolling basis and aim to respond within 5 business days.
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building diverse, inclusive care teams.
