Job description

Instructor – Florida Scholars Academy (FSA)
In-person at a Florida Department of Juvenile Justice facility near you
Full-time | Paid time off | Full benefits | $59,850

Why This Job Is Different

At Florida Scholars Academy, we believe in second chances and bright futures. As an FSA Instructor, you won’t just teach—you’ll empower students living in DJJ residential facilities across Florida. You’ll help them catch up, level up, and thrive academically, no matter where they’re starting from.

This is a powerful role for someone who wants to make real change, build strong relationships, and grow in a tech-forward and values-aligned organization.

What You’ll Do

  • Teach to small groups of students
  • Plan creative and interactive lessons that meet students where they are
  • Build trust and create a safe space for learning and growth
  • Track attendance and grades, and help students set goals
  • Work with other educators to share ideas and build success
  • Tutor students 1-on-1 or in small groups
  • Use both in-person and digital tools (yes, we blend tech + human interaction)
  • Be a mentor, motivator, and life-changer—all in a day’s work

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are...

  • A mission-driven educator (or aspiring one) who believes in helping all students succeed
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable navigating online learning platforms
  • Flexible, creative, and excited to work in a dynamic environment
  • Someone who brings patience, humor, and compassion to the classroom
  • Looking for a purposeful role, not just a paycheck

Must-Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • A valid Florida teaching certificate — or a temporary certificate / proof of enrollment in an EPI or MAT program
  • Comfortable working full-time onsite at a DJJ facility
  • Willing to attend professional development, meetings, and trainings
  • Passionate about growth—both for your students and yourself

(Preferred but Not Required)

  • Certification in ESE, Reading, ESOL, or Gifted Education
  • Experience teaching in non-traditional settings or with at-risk youth
  • Strong classroom management and student engagement skills

Tech & Skills You’ll Use

  • Microsoft Suite (Teams, Outlook, Sharepoint)
  • Online grading and learning platforms
  • Digital curriculum tools
  • Basic troubleshooting & digital communication

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

  • Frequency of travel: Daily travel is required to the assigned residential facility. Frequent travel is required for meetings, training, and conferences; location may vary and may require overnight stays.
  • Light physical activities and efforts required working in an office environment

(Reasonable accommodations will be made in accordance with existing ADA requirements for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.)
