Job Summary:
Ensures safe operations, maintenance, and repair of ammonia refrigeration, utility equipment, and utility systems.
SCOPE OF WORK
Displays a list of typical duties and accountabilities. List is not based on order of priority.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitors ammonia refrigeration systems to ensure all components are operating within established set points and parameters.
  • Performs routine maintenance on all mechanical and electrical ammonia refrigeration systems. Completes all required documentation.
  • Interprets maintenance manuals and technical prints to facilitate troubleshooting procedures.
  • Responds to system breakdowns and emergency situations with a sense of urgency. Complies with the Developed Mechanical Integrity program.
  • Provides feedback on necessary changes to better align with Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).

SKILLS AND EDUCATION
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Intermediate knowledge of ammonia and refrigeration chemistry and operations.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a hazardous environment with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Ability to use knives/box cutters.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery/ hazardous equipment.
  • Ability to operate a fork lift/pallet jack.

  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to off-site and out-of-town locations with possible overnight stays.
  • Ability to work on-call and flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • May be required to drive in accordance with the BGC Driver policy.
  • Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:
  • High school Diploma or GED required.
  • Two or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
  • Completion of vocational or technical school preferred.
  • RETA CARO and/or CIRO certification preferred.
  • RETA Operator I and II certification preferred.
  • 24 Hour Hazardous Response certification preferred.
  • Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
