Job description

The Technician I position is an entry-level field technician responsible for assisting with the installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of IP-based surveillance and security systems.

Working under the guidance of senior technicians and project managers, this position provides hands-on experience with CCTV systems, structured cabling, networking, access control, and related technologies. The ideal candidate possesses a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, excellent customer service skills, and a desire to grow within the electronic security industry.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation of IP surveillance camera systems.
  • Install, terminate, and test CAT5e, CAT6, fiber optic, and coaxial cabling.
  • Mount cameras, network equipment, monitors, racks, and associated hardware.
  • Assist with installation of access control systems.
  • Pull and dress cable according to industry standards.
  • Label and document cabling and equipment.
  • Assist with equipment rack assembly and cable management.
  • Configure basic network devices under supervision.
  • Perform equipment testing and troubleshooting.
  • Complete punch list items and corrective actions under supervision/direction.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Travel to customer sites throughout the United States as required.
  • Provide professional customer interaction while representing GSA.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel 25–60%.
  • Ability to pass background checks and obtain gaming licenses where required.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working on ladders and lifts.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with any of the following is considered a plus:

  • CCTV installation
  • Security systems
  • Structured cabling
  • Network installation
  • Fiber optic cable installation
  • Access control systems
  • Network experience
  • Electrical or low-voltage installation
  • Construction experience

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and climb.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Travel overnight as projects require.
