Mazza Recycling is hiring an experienced Diesel Mechanic / Heavy-Duty Fleet Technician to maintain, diagnose, and repair our Class A and Class B commercial vehicles, diesel trucks, heavy equipment, and recycling facility equipment. This role is ideal for a hands-on mechanic who is confident working on diesel engines, air brake systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, emissions systems, preventive maintenance, and fleet repairs in a fast-paced industrial environment.

This overnight shift position offers stable, year-round work with a growing New Jersey recycling company that values safety, teamwork, reliability, and professional growth. If you are looking for a diesel mechanic job where your skills directly support essential operations, reduce downtime, and keep commercial vehicles and equipment moving, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Class A and Class B diesel vehicles, commercial trucks, roll-off trucks, tractor-trailers, dump trucks, loaders, forklifts, heavy equipment, and MRF plant equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance services including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, brake inspections, tire checks, battery checks, fluid services, DOT-related inspections, and safety repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, air brakes, suspension systems, steering components, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, cooling systems, fuel systems, DEF/emissions systems, and aftertreatment components.
  • Use diagnostic software, scan tools, test equipment, technical manuals, schematics, and work orders to accurately identify root causes and complete repairs efficiently.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, cutting, and mechanical repairs as needed to keep vehicles, containers, equipment, and facility systems operating safely.
  • Complete road calls, equipment inspections, operational testing, and post-repair quality checks as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection notes, parts usage, repair documentation, and service history in accordance with company procedures.
  • Operate shop and facility equipment safely, including forklifts, loaders, service vehicles, and related tools.
  • Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, environmental standards, and company maintenance protocols.
  • Communicate equipment issues, repair priorities, safety concerns, and downtime risks to management in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Prior experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy-Duty Mechanic, Fleet Mechanic, Truck Mechanic, Trailer Mechanic, Equipment Mechanic, or Maintenance Technician preferred.
  • Experience repairing Class A and/or Class B commercial vehicles strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, hydraulics, electrical diagnostics, emissions systems, preventive maintenance, and heavy equipment repair.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and computer-based diagnostic issues.
  • Welding, fabrication, torch cutting, MIG, Stick, or related repair skills preferred.
  • CDL Class A or Class B, ASE certifications, DOT inspection experience, EPA 609, or manufacturer training is a plus but not required.
  • Forklift, loader, or heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in a shop/industrial environment in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, bend, stand, climb, kneel, and perform physically demanding work safely.
  • Willingness to work overnight shift, overtime, weekends, and occasional emergency repairs as business needs require.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, attention to detail, safety mindset, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay based on experience, skills, certifications, and fleet maintenance background.
  • Stable overnight schedule with year-round work in an essential industry.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with up to 4% company match.
  • Paid time off and sick time.
  • Annual salary increase opportunities.
  • Training, hands-on learning, and professional development opportunities.
