Your role at GEI.
GEI's Knoxville office is seeking a Project Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. The candidate will be part of a connected team of GEI professionals working across the country. This individual will contribute to planning and implementation of projects in a variety of natural and urban settings. Under supervision of more senior staff, this individual will provide support to ongoing field and engineering design efforts. Field activities will include coordination and documentation of geotechnical investigations and construction quality assurance projects. The candidate will also provide support to ongoing design efforts that include preparation of design documents for geotechnical analyses such as derivation of geotechnical engineering parameters, bearing capacity, and settlement.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Execute technical projects and assignments as an assistant project manager in coordination with senior project managers and support staff. Example projects include substation and transmission structure construction, construction quality assurance for earthwork and concrete construction, dam rehabilitation, flood control, stormwater management planning and design.
  • Prepare detailed written memoranda and reports on technical assignments and present technical information to peers and clients.
  • Prepare design documents including drawings, technical specifications, basis of design documents, bid documents and project schedules.
  • Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel.
  • Working knowledge of Federal and Local regulatory and permitting requirements is desirable.
  • Computer modeling, CAD and GIS experience a plus

Minimum Qualifications
  • 5-10 Years of applicable professional experience.
  • B.S. Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, M.S. considered a plus.
  • Ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license within four (4) years.
  • Ability to work in a team environment both indoors and outdoors.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to travel on temporary work assignments.
  • Valid driver's license.
