Job description

Build your best future with Johnson Controls. As a global leader in smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings, we are focused on reimagining performance to serve people, places, and the planet. Based in Cranberry Township, PA, this role is an opportunity to help grow fire sales through customer partnership, strong leadership, and cross-functional collaboration.

You will join a team that supports a wide range of industries and values meaningful work, learning opportunities, and a culture where ideas can be heard. If you are motivated by driving results, developing people, and building lasting customer relationships, this position offers a chance to make a real impact.

Role Overview

The Fire Sales Manager leads the Fire Construction and Owner Service Sales Team within an assigned area. In this role, you will shape strategy, alignment, and team development across new construction, plan and specification retrofit, and owner sales for fire projects. The focus is on strengthening Electronic Life Safety Systems and Service Sellers while deepening legacy customer relationships, growing wallet share, and expanding recurring revenue opportunities.

The right candidate understands strategic selling in construction and owner environments, can influence decisions across the purchasing process, and works effectively with partners across installation, service, HVAC, controls, and strategic account functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day performance of the district or branch construction and owner/core sales team for fire alarm and alternate electronic systems businesses.
  • Set territory strategy and align sellers to customer, employee, and sales goals.
  • Partner with Area Sales Managers and General Managers to develop sales strategies, negotiate contracts, and execute pricing approaches that support profitable growth.
  • Review sales performance regularly and adjust coverage, coaching, and resource allocation to improve results.
  • Coach, develop, hire, and align a high-performing sales team.
  • Build stronger relationships with owners, end users, contractors, and influencers to grow wallet share and recurring service revenue.
  • Represent Johnson Controls at construction industry events and engage branch support resources to strengthen competitive position.
  • Develop territory business plans covering market coverage, sales staffing, customer development, and industry relationships.
  • Support key clients through joint calls, deal support, and relationship building with sales representatives.
  • Expand service opportunities in the assigned district or branch territory, including moves and additions below the Solutions position.

How You Will Do It

  • Own the area's sales outcomes with accountability, safety, and integrity.
  • Stay close to the work by joining customer meetings, ride-alongs, and deal reviews so obstacles are removed quickly and decisions are practical.
  • Use coaching, mentoring, and performance reviews to strengthen seller capability and improve execution every day.
  • Work as one team with area, branch, and national leaders to share best practices, coordinate resources, and win together.
  • Apply disciplined pricing, pipeline management, and market insight to support profitable growth and protect customer value.
  • Lead with candor and continuous improvement so the team can learn quickly, adapt to change, and keep raising the bar.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in the fire safety industry.
  • Minimum of five years of sales experience, including at least three years of field sales management in a business-to-business environment, or successful management of another sales channel.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a high-volume, transaction-driven sales team.
  • Experience leading projects, selling at multiple customer levels, and working effectively in team-based environments.
  • Construction industry experience and a track record of developing owner relationships.
  • Working knowledge of Security, Controls, and HVAC equipment, along with an understanding of the construction process.
  • Ability to create practical solutions to customer needs while meeting business objectives.
  • Strong communication, team-building, prioritization, and deadline-management skills.
  • Experience leading a team through transition or significant organizational change.
  • Sound business judgment and an eye for commercial opportunity.

Nice to Have

  • BS in a technical, business, or marketing discipline.
  • Five or more years in a leadership role.
  • Experience with fire sprinkler or fire suppression markets.
  • Familiarity with construction lead sources such as McGraw Hill.
