Position Summary:

The successful candidate will work on a variety of environmental site investigation and remediation projects at industrial, commercial, and government sites and conduct site assessments for real estate transactions. Duties will include performing routine, well-defined field and office assignments (technical and non-technical) including planning, conducting, and reporting on field investigations involving well installations, soil and groundwater sampling, aquifer testing, and hydrogeology. Work may be conducted under a variety of regulatory programs (Oil and Gas, UST, Brownfields) throughout the region. The position will receive detailed instructions and close supervision, with increasing independence as experience grows.


Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:

  • Perform field activities including drilling and logging, sampling environmental media and wastes, monitoring well installations, Phase I ESAs, and data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

  • Prepare maps, charts, boring logs, and cross-sections depicting subsurface conditions.

  • Use standard office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Perform field testing using equipment and instrumentation.

  • Prepare field reports, internal correspondence, sections of final reports, and regulatory reporting.

  • Oversee subcontractors and / or other company employees in the field.

  • Prepare health and safety plans / job hazard analyses and follow company / site safety standards.

  • Contact vendors; research literature and regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct scientific calculations.

  • Perform infiltration testing to support permitting and construction projects.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Audit waste handling facilities and document findings.

  • Collect samples using various sampling methods, including hand auger, bailers, pumps and low-flow sampling techniques.

  • Maintain and calibrate field equipment and instruments. 

  • Accurately document field conditions, field measurements, and sample custody; comply with client safety requirements; wear client-specified personal protective equipment; and participate in routine drug screening as required.

  • All tasks are to support design and/or regulatory compliance for the development of client assets.   
     

Required Qualifications:

  • A B.S. degree in Geology or related area with one to five years of experience is required.  
  • Must have demonstrated ability in field data collection, analysis, and technical writing.  
  • Experience in environmental consulting or related experience preferred.  
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations preferred.  
  • Strong oral and written communication/interpersonal skills are a must.

Physical Requirements:
This position may require strenuous fieldwork under varying site and weather conditions, including standing, crouching, sitting, lifting equipment and sample coolers weighing 1 to 50 pounds, moving soil with shovels or hand augers, and potential exposure to natural and chemical hazards.  Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
Work will be split between the office and field.  Hybrid or remote office work may be available depending on candidate location and project needs.  Field work will primarily occur throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia, with periodic overnight travel required.  Field work will be primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions and may require wearing FRC clothing.  No relocation costs will be provided.
