Radio Technician - Journeyman

Salary: $36 - $42/hr

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Radio Technician Journeyman to support the design, installation, programming, and maintenance of wireless communication systems. This is a hands-on role requiring strong troubleshooting capabilities across complex radio and public safety communication environments. The ideal candidate brings technical expertise in RF systems and the ability to work directly with customers to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.


Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair wireless communication systems including:
    • Two-way radios
    • Dispatch consoles
    • Paging infrastructure
    • Trunked radio systems
    • Mobile and base station equipment
  • Perform system programming in accordance with industry standards and manufacturer specifications
  • Install and configure wireless communication systems, including mobile and fixed units
  • Conduct diagnostic testing and interpret results to resolve technical issues effectively
  • Provide customer support in person, by phone, and electronically, ensuring timely resolution of issues
  • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and customers to coordinate timelines and service delivery
  • Prepare project quotes and provide technical recommendations for repairs and system upgrades
  • Support and follow safety protocols, including acting as a safety point of contact when needed
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to urgent service needs, including after-hours support
  • Travel locally and regionally as needed, including occasional overnight assignments

Required Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience with two-way radio and wireless communication systems
  • Strong working knowledge of RF theory, DC and AC electrical systems, and technical troubleshooting
  • Experience working with:
    • Dispatch systems and consoles
    • Trunked radio systems
    • Mobile radio installations
    • Antennas, transmitters, and receivers
  • Proficiency with computers and technical software used for diagnostics and programming
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or vocational training in Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related field
  • Industry certifications such as:
    • FCC License
    • NARTE or ETA CET certification
    • NABER certification
  • Experience supporting public safety or mission-critical communication systems

Work Environment and Expectations

  • Combination of field and shop-based work
  • Exposure to active job sites, equipment rooms, and outdoor environments
  • Ability to lift equipment and work in physically active conditions
  • Flexibility to support emergency communication systems, which may require overtime or rapid response
