Indianapolis was selected for the development of the electric drive business and to attract manufacturing, quality, purchasing, sales, electrical, mechanical, and software engineers.
For over 30 years we have been the market leader in the design and manufacture of hydraulic drive systems with 85% market share. In 2009 the company introduced its electric drives to replace hydraulic drives for existing customers. This new Application Technician / Engineer position is to support the recent focus on leveraging the mature electric drive product beyond the current customer base by growing in new markets.
We are seeking an Application Technician or Engineer for our new markets to collaborate with equipment and mobile machine OEMs to recommend solutions using our new industry’s leading electric drive products.
If you are a great communicator, superb problem solver with technical amplitude and willing to schedule up to 50% of travel you’ll have a successful career in this role. Most of the travel is in the Midwest, by company assigned vehicle, one or two days with an overnight stay. 90% being one overnight stay.
Position Summary
Provides technical support, guidance, and solutions for our new market OEM customers using our electric drives. Applications Engineers are responsible for providing technical support as members of the sales and applications team – and tasked with maintaining customer relationships both internal and external of the company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Communications and Leadership
• Possess adequate product knowledge to effectively communicate with customer accounts and applicable internal personnel
• Assist in commercial issues that may occur
• Assist in determining pricing for products or product features and provide to Account Manager, Applications Engineering Manager, and/or Market Development Manager/Director
• Representing company following legal requirements, company policies, and/or customer agreements
Account Development
• Schedule on site visits with accounts to discuss new development projects, current product applications, field service and warranty support.
• Provide technical assistance to account in development, maintenance, and service of their machine
• Submit Engineering Change Requests (ECR) to support customer product/service change requests
• Perform low-end engineering activities
• Maintain account call frequency to OEM accounts
• Communicate technical aspects to ensure the proper application of product
• Pursue assigned accounts to promote continued company growth with the account
• Evaluate applications in accordance with the company Applications Acceptance Procedure detailed in the service manual
• Communicate with Account Manager issues that arise with the account, pricing requests, and potential new opportunities.
• Provide the Account Manager with account information to assist in the forecasting process.
• Provide noteworthy account information as necessary for completion of monthly summary
• Perform application reviews on vehicles
Administration and Management
• Assist in resolving engineering issues
• Communicate engineering issues to Market Segment Director, Account Manager, and Engineering Manager providing facts
• Schedule visits to OEM direct accounts, and/or account manufacturing facilities for a proactive position
• Communicate application recommendations and/or applications data
• Submit trip report detailing highlights of meetings with an account
• Input information into Salesforce CRM platform
Salary:
• Commensurate with experience

Education and Experience Requirements
• B.A./B.S. technical degree and/or 3 years minimum work experience in a related field and or/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Have a strong technical knowledge and ability to read print schematics
• Possess strong problem-solving skills
• Have ability to prioritize multiple activities/projects and is detailed oriented.
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office
• The following experience is a plus for the “Well Rounded” candidate:
Knowledge of light and heavy equipment, pneumatics and hydraulics, mechanical, and electrical systems
• Up to 40% to 50%. Travel is planned and scheduled for domestic customer visits.
