Job description

The Manager, Content and Editorial Strategy leads Tri-State's content strategy, editorial direction, brand voice governance, and employee advocacy efforts to strengthen brand awareness, audience engagement, and organizational reputation.

This role serves as the steward of Tri-State's brand voice and editorial standards, ensuring consistency, quality, and strategic alignment across all written communications and content channels. The position is responsible for writing, developing and executing content strategies that support organizational priorities while translating complex energy, policy, technology, and cooperative topics into compelling and accessible stories for key audiences.


The Manager, Content and Editorial Strategy oversees content planning, creation, and performance across digital, social, web, video, podcast, campaign, and employee advocacy channels. This position manages the Content & Digital Coordinator and collaborates closely with Brand Communications, Creative Services, Media Relations, Government Relations, Employee Communications, Energy Services, executive leadership, and subject matter experts throughout the organization to advance Tri-State's strategic objectives through impactful content and storytelling.

Content and Editorial Strategy Manager
Hiring Salary Range: $122,000-$156,000
Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.

Tri-State is a wholesale power supply cooperative, operating on a not-for-profit basis, with electric distribution cooperatives and public power district members in four states: Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wyoming. Together with its members, Tri-State delivers reliable, affordable and responsible power and energy services to nearly a million electricity consumers across roughly 200,000 square miles of the West.

Founded in 1952 by its member systems to provide a reliable, cost-based supply of electricity, Tri-State is now headquartered in Westminster, Colo., employing approximately 1,000 people across five states.

Tri-State's electricity is generated from coal, natural gas, hydropower, wind, and solar. This power reaches members via a transmission system that includes substation facilities, telecommunications sites and almost 6,000 miles of high voltage transmission lines.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field,or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • Computer proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
  • Proficiency in working with project management software.
  • Strong command of grammar and editorial best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, effective verbal and visual communication skills, and the confidence to present ideas clearly and professionally to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relations.
  • Ability to give and receive direction and/or critique.

Other:

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including overnight travel.

DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in communications, marketing or related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of the creative process from start to finish.
  • Writes clear and concise content tailored to different audiences and channels.
  • Serve as the steward of Tri-State's brand voice, messaging framework, and editorial standards, ensuring consistency, quality, accuracy, and alignment across all communications channels.
  • Develop, manage and execute content plans, editorial calendars, and storytelling opportunities that support organizational priorities across digital, social media, video, podcast, web, marketing, and employee communications channels.
  • Create, write, edit, and oversee content including feature stories, executive messaging, website copy, marketing materials, scripts, interview questions, thought leadership content, social media and employee advocacy content, and campaign communications.
  • Serve as the strategic lead and administrator for Tri-State's employee advocacy program, including content strategy, user engagement, adoption, analytics, reporting, and program growth initiatives.
  • Lead content strategy and editorial oversight for Tri-State's digital properties, identifying opportunities to improve audience engagement, user experience, and content effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Creative Services, Media Relations, Government Relations, Employee Communications, Energy Services, executive leadership, member systems, and subject matter experts to develop integrated communications and storytelling strategies.
  • Directly supervise the Content & Digital Coordinator, providing leadership, coaching, professional development, workflow management, and performance oversight.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on content and employee advocacy performance, using data-driven insights to optimize strategies, improve engagement, and demonstrate organizational impact.
  • Collaborates with and supports the communications needs of our members through the Communications Advisory Council.
  • Support corporate initiatives, member programs, events, sponsorships, conferences, annual meetings, and other organizational activities through strategic messaging, content development, and communications support.
  • Stay informed of emerging communications, content marketing, social media, employee advocacy, and digital engagement trends and incorporate best practices into business objectives.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures and attain knowledge of regulations, laws, standards, and best practices applicable to the functional area.
  • Demonstrate and promote ethics and behaviors consistent with policies and business practices. Understand and fulfill the role and responsibility for all compliance programs within the company.
