Job description

  • Work hand in hand with the managing editor and editor-in-chief to conceive, assign, edit and produce the weekly print newspaper, special publications and special sections.
  • Assign, edit and contribute business executive profiles and other regular features.
  • Work with the Research Desk to develop data-driven List packages.
  • Source and coordinate with staff reporters and others to produce Business Journal stories, for both print and online.
  • Edit news stories throughout the day for the Business Journal's print and digital platforms.
  • Assist events team with awards programs, including outreach to judges and awardees.
  • Regularly participate in and attend Business Journal-sponsored events.
  • Work with the managing editor and editor-in-chief to develop a sophisticated read on the pulse of the business community so as to best coach and inspire the news team toward greater audience growth and engagement.
  • Experience leading journalists in a hard-news environment.
  • Comfortable operating in a rapidly changing media environment.
  • Daily and, preferably, weekly print experience for a business news operation.
  • Beat reporter experience.
  • Strong wordsmith who has demonstrated a talent for reporter and story development.
  • Very strong knowledge of AP style.
  • Familiarity with InDesign and online content management systems, SEO, analytics.
  • Strong headline writer, for both print and online.
  • Effective communicator and coach, able to share knowledge and inspire team to pursue in-depth, engaging and unique journalism.
