Description:
This position is for a Level 1 Trauma Center with a Magnet Designation.
The facility has a total of 273 beds.
Emergency Department has an average patient load of 150 patients every 24 hours.
Patient types range from neonates to geriatric patients.
The department has a heavy behavioral health population.
ICU Holds department has capabilities of EICU RN.
Regular patient ratios for RNs are 1:4-6; typically 1:4-5 during the day and flexes to 6 overnight.
When fully staffed, the ratio is usually 1:3.
Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, and preferred certifications are CPI/MOAB, TCRN, TNS, ENPC.
Skills required include IV starts, assisting with chest tube insertion, medication titration, trauma experience, and stroke experience with TPA administration.
All agency staff in the Emergency Department will be re-validated on their ability to draw a blood culture without technique contamination.
Experience with electronic medical records (EPIC) is required.
Support on the unit includes several ED techs during the day and fewer overnight.
There is a charge nurse who may have a patient assignment overnight, although this is rare.
RNs will draw most labs, but phlebotomy support can be called for subsequent lab draws.
A task RN will assist with break relief and can triage, draw labs, and assist with traumas.
An alert RN will assist with critical patients in the Emergency Department as needed.
Centralized tele monitors are throughout the unit and bedside, but no tele tech is available.
ED physicians and mid-level providers are available 24/7.
Regular rotations include weekends every other week.
Holidays require manager approval for time off.
Flexibility in scheduling is available, with days, mids, and nights shifts.
Self-scheduling is done on a 6-week cycle.
Scrub color for RNs is navy blue.
CNA scrub color is teal.
