Job description

Operator 1

Compensation:$20.00 - $28.00 per hour (depending on experience)

Position Summary

Operator 1 is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the operation of dredging and related equipment under close supervision. This role is designed for individuals beginning a career in heavy equipment operations who are eager to learn, develop technical skills, and advance within the company.

While prior equipment experience is valued, dredging is a highly specialized industry with unique systems and processes. Success in this role requires a strong willingness to learn, absorb knowledge, and continuously grow. Operator 1 is intended as a developmental position, with the expectation that employees will progress throughdemonstratedinitiative, skill development, and increased responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate basic support equipment (e.g., skid steers, loaders) as directed.
  • Assistexperienced operators with equipment setup, fueling, and site preparation.
  • Monitor gauges, signals, and surroundingactivityto ensure safe operation.
  • Support dredging operations by following direction and performing assigned tasks.
  • Perform pre- and post-shift inspections, cleaning, and minor maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work site.
  • Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and supervisor instructions.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and report hazards or mechanical issuesimmediately.
  • Performadditionalduties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

    • Must be at least 18 years old by date of hire
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 0-1 year of experience in equipment operation or mechanical work.
    • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to travel extensively andworkrotational schedules, including extended shifts and overnight assignments.
    • Current MSHA Part 46 or Part 48training;must be able to successfully complete andmaintainall required MSHA training and site-specific safety training upon hire.

    Schedule & Compensation

    Full-time, non-exempt position

    This is a full-time, non-exempt position that regularly includes overtime opportunities based on project schedules and operational needs. Team members in this role typically work approximately60 hoursper week while assigned to active projects. This rolegenerally followsa14 dayson /7 days off rotational schedule; however, schedules may vary depending on project requirements, weather conditions, operational demands, and travellogistics.

    Based on typical scheduling and overtime patterns, employees in this role may have the opportunity to earn$50,000- $70,000+annually. Actual earnings will vary based on experience, hours worked, overtime availability, travel schedules, project assignments, and business needs.

    Work Environment

    This role is basedinoutdoor mining, construction, and industrial job sites with exposure to varying weather conditions, rough terrain, and active heavy equipment environments. The work is physically demanding, requiringlifting upto 75lbs, extended standing and walking, climbing, bending, and occasional work at heights or in confined spaces. Employees are regularly exposed to dust, noise, vibration, and diesel exhaust, and must follow all safety policies, MSHA regulations, and PPE requirements.

    Frequent travel to job sites nationwide isrequired, including overnight or extended assignments, with potential for long, rotating, or weekend shifts based on project needs.
