SUMMARY:

Coordinates and provides spiritual, emotional, and existential care to patients, visitors, and TMC staff and physicians.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Participates in delivering and arranging appropriate spiritual care to patients, visitors, and staff through assessment and triage. Provides emotional and spiritual intervention in crisis situations.

Ability to triage a daily patient list of visit consults and emergency requests that come through phone, Epic, and Vocera.

Provides spiritual care presence at assigned facility/facilities or off-campus facilities to those who are grieving, anxious, overwhelmed, or exhausted.

Assesses and documents spiritual care needs of patient in patient's EHR.

Assists with Advance Directive discussions including providing information about available paperwork for completion by patient.

Assists with Morgue visitation as needed.

Promotes individual spiritual growth and provides a nurturing community for colleagues and volunteers.

Participates in the offering of and meeting the ritual, sacramental, and devotional needs of patients, their visitors, and staff. Leads interfaith and ecumenical services.

Provide spiritual, emotional, and existential care in a diverse and inclusive perspective respecting and representing a no faith/interfaith, ecumenical setting.

Supports an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care by participating in team meetings, rounds, and serving on institutional committees as appointed.

Assists in the coordination of clergy and spiritual care visitors from the patient's religious community, as requested.

Participates and articulates the department's plan for continuous quality improvement utilizing processes that are available and helping to develop new processes. Fosters an environment that focuses on excellence in processes and outcomes.

Participate in regular professional development activities and supervision.

Adheres to and supports team members in exhibiting TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication.

Performs a variety of activities in support of continuing education and/or spiritual services at assigned facility, which may include: coordinating the work of Spiritual Care volunteers, participating in evidence-based research projects and writing related journal articles; collaborating and maintaining community partnerships/relationships; providing educational and consultative seminars to the hospital community staff, peers, and students on topics such as, spiritual assessment, ethics, death and dying, grief, existential and moral distress, prayer, and spirituality, Spiritual Care skills.

Updating, maintaining, and distributing spiritual literature; and/or performing other related activities.

Spiritual Care covers TMC Grant and TMC Rincon during the day and overnight. Shifts may include on-call coverage as well including TMC Grant, TMC Rincon, and Peppi's Hospice.

Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety and confidentiality policies and standards and participates in maintenance of proper administrative procedures for the department in accordance with institutional policy.

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Masters of Divinity, Masters of Theology, Masters of Spiritual Care or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required

Four (4) units of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Two (2) years of chaplain or spiritual care experience preferred.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:

Ordination or Commissioning for chaplaincy by an applicable organization required within one (1) year of hire required.

In good standing with appropriate authority by a recognized applicable organization required.

Eligibility for endorsement in specialized Spiritual Care by recognized group required.

Eligibility for board certification by a nationally recognized professional organization, such as Association of Professional Chaplains or others preferred.

For Hospice only: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Valid AZ fingerprint clearance care is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of interfaith chaplaincy concepts and practices.

Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of Spiritual Care

Skilled in providing spiritual needs and guidance.

Values diversity and input from others.

Listens well; responds with empathy.

Skilled in maintaining composure and professional demeanor in difficult, volatile, and stressful situations.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to listen and accurately interpret others' communication or instructions to take appropriate action.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
