Job description

Role and Responsibilities: Full Time position supporting the Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS) filling

a Field Engineer position as an electrician on the SDTS. The position is on board the SDTS located

in NSWC Port Hueneme, California.

Position Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree and 4-6 years of experience or no degree and minimum 8 years’ experience.

• The electrician must possess a minimum of 4 -6 years of shipboard electrical experience.

• Must have experience with power distribution systems, HVAC electrical systems, load transfer systems/switching, circuit installations and troubleshooting

• Responsible for the operation of a ship's electrical power generation systems, lighting systems, electrical equipment, and electrical appliances.

• Must know shipboard tagout lockout

• Must be able to use multi-meter for troubleshooting.

• Must be able to work independent completing onboard maintenance requirements.

• Must be able to support overnight underway evolutions (includes regular housekeeping/cleaning).

• Must be able to take log readings and stand underway watches.

• Must have basic computer Microsoft Office skills (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, data entry)

• Must serve as member of ship’s Damage Control Fire Party.

• Have a valid driver’s license with own transportation.

• Must have no criminal record and able to satisfactorily complete background check.

• Must be able to work under minimal supervision, perform and complete tasks with limited guidance.

• Able to follow company policies and procedures.

• Able to write, speak and understand English and able to write clear, detailed reports.

Preferred Skills:

• EM “A” and “C” School, EM 2ⁿᵈ class

• Familiar with shipboard electrical service.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to climb up and down the shipboard vertical ladders.

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

• Must be able to pass Shipboard Fire Party School.

• Must be able to get underway to support mission operations.
