Lawrence University invites applications for a one-year appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor to begin September 1, 2026. We seek candidates who will contribute to our growing statistics and data science program, which includes a new Data Science and Statistics major. A Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, data science, mathematics, or a closely related field is preferred; a master's degree is required. Candidates should demonstrate potential for teaching a variety of undergraduate statistics and data science courses, including courses using R or Python.
Responsibilities include teaching two undergraduate courses in each of Lawrence's three ten-week terms. The successful candidate will be the third statistics and data science faculty member in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. In their teaching statement, candidates are encouraged to discuss their experiences and ideas for teaching courses involving data analysis and computational tools, including R or Python. Candidates should also discuss how they will foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
