Job description

Tectonic is seeking a licensed Professional Land Surveyor to join our growing Land Surveying Team for a project based in Meriden, CT. This position offers the flexibility of full-time or part-time employment and the opportunity to contribute to a significant project while working alongside a collaborative and experienced survey team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of this position include operating survey instruments such as total stations, data collectors, GPS, and other standard survey equipment, collecting information required to carry out new surveys using source maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records, and other relevant information, and the compilation of information necessary to stake projects for construction using engineering plans. They will conduct surveys to determine the locations of natural features and man-made structures on the Earth's surface, underground, and underwater using electronic distance measuring equipment and other surveying instruments. Essential functions also include the direction and supervision of day to day work of subordinate members of surveying parties, laying out grids, determining horizontal and vertical controls, maintaining survey equipment and vehicles, and all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of surveying experience with a strong working knowledge of surveying equipment;
  • Must possess a HS Diploma or equivalent; AAS in Surveying a plus;
  • Valid Professional Land Surveyor License required;
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations;
  • Ability to review/understand written civil construction and architectural plans and specifications;
  • Availability to work overtime as needed, with the ability to travel for overnight assignments;
  • Possession of or ability to obtain OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety Certification and applicable scaffolding training certifications;
  • Valid, clean driver's license is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of these positions, the employee is constantly required to assume a stationary position for prolonged periods of time, and handle inspect, and/or feel documents, materials, and/or equipment relevant to the job and communicate about same. The employee will also need to process manual and computer generated reports, and will be required to communicate using the Corporate e-mail and telephone systems. The employee is frequently required to move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending the landscape, and positioning themselves appropriately to access necessary materials and equipment; they are sometimes required to do so in hazardous conditions, such as in woods, water, snow, etc.. The employee must frequently lift and/or move equipment up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move equipment up to 75 lbs.. This position involves regularly operating a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time. In accordance with the level of visual detail required for this position, close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are required for this position in order to detect non-conformities. Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of these positions. Tectonic's goal is to compensate employees fairly and equitably across all positions Companywide. The offered pay may be outside of the provided salary range based upon the selected candidate's work location, experience, education, certifications, and capabilities compared to the advertised position.
Pay Range: $45.00 - $67.00 / hour
