Job description

Salary:

Summary/Objective:
Promotes the company mission statement by working as part of a crew on projects involving exterior pipe installation, concrete forming/pouring/finishing, heavy equipment support, process equipment installation, and wastewater treatment work. This role supports pipe crews and civil teams by installing a variety of piping systems, preparing trenches, assisting with mechanical and process equipment, and performing general construction tasks associated with water and wastewater treatment facilities.


HarperXS is focused on executing construction projects within active facilities and occupied spaces. It is the expectation of HarperXS that candidates be experienced working within this industry. HarperXS fully expects candidates to be willing to comply with client requirements and educate themselves on the conditions and expectations of working within their facilities.


Essential Functions:

  • Install ductile iron, PVC, stainless, and process piping for water and wastewater treatment facilities; install small interior PVC and copper pipe.
  • Prepare, excavate, and backfill trenches following trench safety requirements.
  • Assist with setting grade, placing bedding, aligning pipe, and checking elevations.
  • Install valves, fittings, supports, and appurtenances for underground utilities and process systems.
  • Work inside clarifiers, basins, pump stations, aeration tanks, and treatment structures.
  • Set pumps, mixers, valves, blowers, and other mechanical/process equipment.
  • Assist with forming, pouring, vibrating, and stripping concrete for pads, walls, foundations, tanks, and equipment bases.
  • Operate or assist with small tools and equipment, including compactors, cutoff saws, drills, and trench rollers.
  • Install erosion-control measures such as silt fence, inlet protection, and temporary stabilization.
  • Thread pipe using threading machine; bend pipe using a pipe bending machine.
  • Assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including brass, copper, lead, carbon, stainless steel, and plastic.
  • Bolt pipe; join pipe through threading, soldering, gluing, and bolting.
  • Secure pipes to structures with clamps, brackets, and hangers using hand or power tools.
  • Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges for signs of leakage.
  • Select specified lumber or other materials; mark for cutting.
  • Shape materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels, and planes.
  • Assemble cut and shaped materials and fasten with nails, dowels, or glue.
  • Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  • Erect scaffolding and ladders for elevated work.
  • Perform rigging and flagging for cranes.


Competencies:

  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors, foremen, and carpenters.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on wastewater and civil job sites.
  • Maintain safe working distances around excavators, loaders, and cranes.
  • Knowledge of carpentry and construction techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Must be flexible and accept change often.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • A Can Do attitude.


Education and Experience:

Minimum GED. Some experience within the construction field is preferred.


Supervisory Responsibilities: None.


Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Must possess the visual acuity to operate equipment and motor vehicles, perform trades tasks, inspect the work of others, and review work for accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness.

Travel Required: Travel to/from multiple jobsites, projects, and offices. Minimal overnight or weekend travel. Valid US drivers license required.
