Benefis Hospital, Great Falls, Montana โ Pediatric Hospitalist (Block Schedule) โ Fullโtime, 182 shifts per year.
Responsibilities
- Inpatient pediatric rounds and newborn rounds.
- Response to the Emergency Department for pediatric patients.
- 24โhour home call shifts.
- Occasional shortโterm pediatric ventilator management postโoperative.
- Care for a wide variety of conditions ranging from overnight observation to acute PICU level care.
- Collaborate with pediatric anesthesiology, respiratory therapy, NICU, and surgical teams.
- Teach medical students and faculty as part of the University of Washington School of Medicine WWAMI appointment.
Shift Details
- Typically 7 on/7 off or 14 on/14 off schedule.
- Alternating 1st call every other day/night for workโlife balance.
- Full inpatient team: 2 pediatric physicians, 2 pediatric nurse practitioners.
Patient Population
- Unit: 14 rooms, 16 beds, ages newborn to 17 years.
- General pediatric diagnoses including surgical, respiratory, psychiatry, neonatal abstinence syndrome, chronic conditions, some PICU and DKA.
- Daily census: approximately 6 patients; increased during cold and flu season.
- Birth center/NICU with average 2โ5 deliveries per day.
