Job Description
The UAB Heersink School of Medicine and School of Engineering are seeking applications for Chair, Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Chair reports to and works closely with the Deans of the School of Engineering and Heersink School of Medicine, and the Senior Vice Dean, Heersink School of Medicine, to fulfill both UAB's and the department's mission to improve health care by making scientific discoveries, solving problems, advancing technology and preparing graduates to succeed in the evolving fields of biomedical engineering and biotechnology.
Responsibilities:
The Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering will support the Schools' mission and vision through the creation of novel strategies to sustain and grow the Department and continue to enhance the mission areas of research and education. S/he will assess gaps within those mission areas and identify future opportunities and needs. Provide strategic leadership for all aspects of the Department, including the positive representation of the Department within the Heersink School of Medicine, School of Engineering and the UAB enterprise, creating collaboration opportunities and working in support of institutional goals.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./ Ph.D.
Academic rank of Professor.

2. Strong ability to work collaboratively with leaders of various backgrounds and interests.
