Job description

Job Description:
The Field Service Technician III is responsible for providing advanced technical support, diagnostics, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment at customer locations. This role contributes to organizational objectives by resolving complex field issues, improving equipment performance, and supporting customer satisfaction. The position serves as a subject matter expert for field service operations and works independently to troubleshoot advanced mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls systems. This role plays a critical part in supporting product reliability, mentoring technicians, and driving continuous improvement in service delivery.
Primary Duties:
  • Perform advanced installation, startup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems and related equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls-related issues with minimal supervision.
  • Serve as a technical resource for Field Service Technicians and internal support teams.
  • Lead commissioning and startup activities for new equipment installations and major system upgrades.
  • Conduct advanced system performance evaluations and recommend corrective actions to optimize equipment operation.
  • Analyze recurring service issues and assist in identifying root causes and long-term corrective solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, product support, and warranty teams to resolve complex field concerns.
  • Maintain detailed service reports, customer documentation, and technical records.
  • Support customer training related to equipment operation, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, regulatory requirements, and customer site protocols.
  • Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Field Service Technician I and II team members.
  • Support field testing and validation of new products and engineering improvements.
  • Participate in warranty investigations and corrective action reviews.
  • Assist in development of service procedures, training materials, and technical documentation.
  • Represent the company during customer escalations and high-priority service events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED);
  • 6+ years of experience in HVAC service, field service, industrial maintenance, or a related technical field,
  • Or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

  • Preferred:
  • Associate degree, technical degree, or vocational training in HVAC, electrical systems, mechanical systems, or a related discipline.
  • EPA Universal Certification.
  • Industry certifications related to HVAC, controls, refrigeration, or building automation systems.
  • Experience with commercial HVAC equipment, controls, and building automation systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, controls, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting and resolving complex equipment and system issues.
  • Strong understanding of building automation systems, controls, and communication protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex wiring diagrams, control schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple service priorities and work independently in the field.
  • Ability to mentor and develop less experienced technicians.

Essential and Physical Functions:
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve highly complex technical issues and make sound decisions in the field.
  • Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to customers, technicians, and internal stakeholders.
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working around operating equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to use fine and gross motor skills for repairs, diagnostics, commissioning, and installations.
  • Ability to sit and drive for extended periods while traveling to customer locations.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in various environmental conditions.

Work Environment:
  • Perform work primarily at customer sites, commercial facilities, industrial operations, and construction locations.
  • Frequent travel required, including overnight travel as business needs dictate.
  • Regular exposure to varying weather conditions, temperature extremes, dust, noise, and mechanical equipment.
  • Exposure to energized electrical systems, refrigeration equipment, moving machinery, and industrial environments.
  • Frequent interaction with customers, contractors, engineers, and operational personnel.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company and customer safety standards.
  • This role is classified as a Safety Sensitive Position, requiring adherence to all safety protocols to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
