Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to play a key role in the design, optimization, and manufacturing support of our overhead, submersible, and pad-mounted distribution transformers. This position requires strong technical acumen, hands-on engineering experience, and the ability to translate customer and manufacturing needs into reliable, cost-effective product solutions.
The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of transformer design principles, proficiency in 2D/3D design tools, and a passion for driving innovation in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
This role will be onsite in Athens, GA. Relocation Assistance is available.
Responsibilities
  • Lead engineering design efforts for distribution transformers across multiple product lines, ensuring performance, manufacturability, and alignment with customer requirements.
  • Drive product optimization and cost-reduction initiatives, improving profitability while maintaining quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Customer Support to interpret order requirements and accurately load bills of materials into the ERP system.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and external vendors to review material specifications, implement material or design changes, and support consolidation and cost-reduction projects.
  • Support cross-functional teams by providing technical guidance, resolving design challenges, and contributing to continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or closely related discipline, plus 5+ years of transformer design experience is ideal.
  • OR in lieu of a degree: 15+ years of proven experience in transformer design, manufacturing, testing, and/or field service.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with AutoCAD 2D or equivalent drafting software.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or comparable 3D modeling software.
