- D Design Engineer – Liquid-Cooled Data Center Infrastructure
A leading technology company is seeking a 3D Design Engineer to support the mechanical architecture and development of next-generation liquid-cooled data center infrastructure. This role will own mechanical design solutions from concept through deployment, including 3D modeling, simulation, documentation, and system integration at both the server rack and data hall level.
The ideal candidate has deep expertise in advanced CAD design, liquid cooling systems, data center infrastructure, and mechanical simulation. This engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, electrical, and facilities teams to design highly optimized systems supporting advanced computing infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end mechanical design of complex 3D assemblies including rack structures, brackets, rails, adapters, cooling manifolds, and fluid connectors.
- Design and optimize liquid cooling solutions, including CDMs, manifolds, connectors, and thermal management systems.
- Integrate mechanical designs with electrical components including power shelves, BBUs, busbars, and related hardware.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models, 2D fabrication drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
- Perform design validation using CFD, FEA, and digital-twin simulation workflows.
- Partner with hardware, electrical, and facilities engineering teams to deliver fully integrated data center solutions.
- Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with industry standards including OCP, ASHRAE, and EIA.
- Improve engineering workflows using AI-assisted tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar technologies to optimize design processes and automation.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Support rapid prototyping through 3D printing and other fabrication methods.
- Evaluate mechanical components, materials, and vendors to meet performance and reliability requirements.
- Develop and improve simulation workflows, design templates, and documentation standards.
- Provide technical leadership on emerging cooling technologies and next-generation data center architectures.
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 4+ years of experience in mechanical design for data centers, HPC, AI infrastructure, or other high-performance computing environments.
- Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent.
- Experience designing complex mechanical assemblies and systems.
- Strong understanding of liquid cooling architectures, thermal management, manifolds, connectors, and cooling loops.
- Experience with CFD and FEA simulation tools for thermal and structural validation.
- Knowledge of data center standards including OCP, ASHRAE, and EIA.
- Experience integrating high-power electrical components such as busbars, power shelves, and BBUs.
- Ability to create and utilize digital-twin models for system-level simulation.
- Experience with rapid prototyping, thermal validation testing, and design iteration.
- Familiarity with BIM/Revit for large-scale facility integration is a plus.
- Experience delivering mechanical designs from concept through production/deployment.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting hyperscale data centers or AI-focused computing infrastructure.
- Background in rack-level thermal optimization or modular cooling solutions.
- Experience with advanced simulation environments such as Cadence Reality DC, Future Facilities, or similar platforms.
- Strong technical communication skills and ability to lead cross-functional engineering efforts.
