What does an outdoor science do?

A typical day in an Outdoor Science role often involves a mix of fieldwork—such as conducting environmental surveys, collecting soil or water samples, observing wildlife, and recording data—along with time spent analyzing results and preparing reports. You may also work with teams of researchers, educators, or community partners to carry out projects, troubleshoot research challenges, or lead educational activities. Work environments can range from remote natural areas to local parks or schools. Flexibility with weather, travel, and varying work hours is common, and safety protocols are a key consideration.
