Job Title: Kennel Manager

Location: Jackson Springs, NC

Job Type: Full-Time


Job Summary:

The Kennel Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall operations and performance of the kennel facility, ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient environment for both animals and staff. This leadership role includes managing supervisory staff, setting standards and policies, budgeting, compliance, and collaborating with upper management on strategic initiatives. The Kennel Manager ensures that the day-to-day operations (led by Kennel Supervisors) align with the facilityโ€™s mission and service standards.


Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Oversight

  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate Kennel Supervisors and animal care staff
  • Develop and enforce operational policies, protocols, and care standards
  • Set staffing plans and schedules in coordination with Supervisors
  • Serve as the point of contact for escalated concerns, animal care decisions, or staff issues

Operations Management

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations, sanitation protocols, and safety standards
  • Oversee purchasing, inventory control, and vendor relationships for supplies and equipment
  • Coordinate repairs or improvements as needed to facility

Financial & Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with leadership on budgeting, pricing, staffing, and service development
  • Track operational data, costs, and key performance indicators

  • Identify opportunities for improved efficiency and customer satisfaction

Collaboration & Communication

  • Liaise with veterinarians, rescue partners, and regulatory agencies
  • Coordinate with HR on hiring, training, and performance management of Supervisors and Leads
  • Represent the facility at meetings, events, or public relations opportunities

Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelorโ€™s degree in animal science, business management, or related field preferred
  • 3โ€“5 years of progressive experience in animal care or boarding facility management, including supervisory experience
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Familiarity with kennel software systems, inventory management, and HR protocols
  • Knowledge of animal behavior, husbandry, and facility regulations
  • Ability to work occasional weekends or holidays, as needed

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and move animals of various sizes safely
  • Prolonged standing and walking; ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience overseeing a multi-shift team
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and USDA/animal care compliance
  • Pet First Aid & CPR certification
  • Bilingual communication skills a plus
