Distinguishing Features of Work This is paraprofessional engineering work requiring a self-starterproviding engineering support in all phases of complex construction and maintenance projects. Specialized in drafting, research and technical analysis, inspection, and collection and management of data.

Work is performed under the general direction of an immediate supervisor. Work is performed both in an office and field environments as required. Work is directed and reviewed through the establishment of goals and subsequent evaluation of progress toward goal attainment.

Bargaining Unit: Employee Council Workdays and Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. For special events you may be require working outside of the regular office hours that could include evenings and weekends, but hours worked will not exceed 40 hours a week in most cases. **Posting can come down at any time** Examples of Work Performed Performs computer-aided drafting using AutoCAD Civil 3D software in preparation of simple construction plans, Exhibits, and details for airport construction projects.

Performs computer-aided drafting for other airport divisions including, but not limited to, property lease exhibits, specialized and custom adapted airport layout drawings, exhibits for security and operational plans and manuals. Performs computations and calculations required in plans preparation and cost estimation. Reviews paving and structural mix designs.

Performs inspection of construction work for compliance with contract documents. Observes the testing of concrete asphaltic concrete, aggregates, and field moisture/density testing of soils during earthwork. Inspects, evaluates and documents pavement conditions.

Receives, files, and inserts CAD based electronic information into current Airport drawings and project files, both preliminary and as-built information. Creates and maintains various databases, exhibits, maps, and GIS layers electronically. Performs basic survey and data collection using GPS equipment.

Performs site utility locates and operates utility locate equipment. These examples are not intended to be all-inclusive. The City of Wichita reserves the right to assign additional responsibilities as needed.

Requirements of Work Knowledge of surveying or of drafting instruments and methods. General knowledge of all types of building, paving and utility construction. Working knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering.

Ability to use a computer to access, interpret and record information. Skill in making engineering computations, estimates and designs and in preparing plans and specifications Skill in writing reports, quantity take-offs, and preparing cost estimates Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products Knowledge and ability to use standard AutoCAD and related software.Ability to recognize and respond to signals that tell the CAD system operator that the equipment is operating properly and/or waiting for a response Skill in writing reports and preparing cost estimates. Ability to quickly learn techniques for testing concrete, asphaltic concrete, aggregates and other materials and compaction and moisture content of earth work

Ability to look through instruments at a height of approximately five feet and reach from five feet to extend level rodand prism pole. Ability to work safely in the middle of streets in heavy traffic. Ability to traverse uneven terrain, climb steps or ladders, and tolerate airborne environmental nuisances associated with construction sites.

Ability to walk distances of approximately one mile, in intervals of about 800 feet, carrying 10-25 pounds in survey instruments and other tools, total station, tripod, prism pole, level rod, level, data collector, pipe and cable locators, stakes, shovel and/or sledge hammer. Ability to walk, bend up and down, get on one knee to take measurements, drive stakes, and/or hammer tacks in the stakes with a sledge hammer. Ability to operate the electronic total station, calculator, data collector, pipe and cable locators, and level.

Ability to work outdoors when inclement weather conditions exist. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, and the public Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing Requires ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license Requires ability to pass federal security background investigations required by the DHS/Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to acquire and maintain airport identification and access control media. Require ability to pass and obtain certification for unescorted access onto runways and taxiways (Air Operations Area (AOA) training).

An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. Experience and Training Required Experience and Training Three years of computer-aided drafting experience in AutoCAD or MicroStation. Five (5) years of experience providing technical support for civil engineering, construction, public infrastructure, surveying, or airport capital improvement projects, including experience preparing construction drawings or plan sheets, performing construction inspections, preparing quantity takeoffs or construction cost estimates, collecting field measurements or survey data, updating engineering records, maps, or GIS data, and reviewing construction documents for accuracy and completeness.

A valid Driver's License. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship. Preferred Experience and Training Associate's degree in civil engineering technology, Engineering Technology, Surveying Technology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or Construction Engineering Technology.

Graduation from an accredited course in computer-aided drafting. Associate Engineering Technician (AET) Certification Level III or higher. Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in any U.S
