Job description

Overview

Since 1949, Camp Grady Spruce has been creating unforgettable experiences for campers and staff alike. As part of the Dallas YMCA, you'll join a legacy of adventure, leadership, and lifelong impact.

This role will live on site, coordinating our Outdoor Education programs. This role encompasses full accountabilities for all facets of camp operation, including staffing, programming, health and safety, and the strategic management of marketing and business aspects of the Outdoor Education programs.

The Program Director is entrusted with the development and implementation of the curriculum for the Camp Grady Spruce outdoor education program. The curriculum should reflect the current Outdoor Education TEKS for the Texas Public Schools.

Responsibilities

The following responsibilities guide the Program Director\'s scope:

  • Budget Management: Develop and meticulously monitor a $1M budget to ensure it aligns with or surpasses expectations for the branch\'s financial status.
  • Residential Role: Reside on-site and assume the responsibility of responding promptly to the needs of guests and staff, maintaining a 24-hour presence during programs.
  • Collaborative Support: Collaborate with other team members to provide assistance and support across various camp operations as required.
  • Volunteer Engagement: Offer support to volunteers, particularly during the Annual Campaign and other campaign-related initiatives.
  • Training Staff: Train staff in all aspects of the Outdoor Education Program or find suitable trainers for activities including Archery, BBs, canoeing, and boat driving.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in outdoor education program development and management.
  • Strong financial acumen, with a track record of budget development and monitoring.
  • Ability to live on-site and respond to camp-related matters 24/7 during programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset, willing to assist in various camp operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective support to volunteers during campaigns.
  • Commitment to the values and mission of the organization.
  • A bachelor\'s degree or higher in a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a YMCA LGI certification is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a Level 1 ropes course, climbing wall, and zip line certification is preferred.
