Ott Engineer information

What is an OTT engineer?

OTT (Over-The-Top) Engineers are professionals who design, develop, and maintain streaming media platforms that deliver video, audio, and other content directly over the internet, bypassing traditional cable or satellite systems. They work with technologies such as content delivery networks (CDNs), video encoding, adaptive bitrate streaming, and digital rights management (DRM) to ensure smooth and secure content delivery to end users. OTT Engineers collaborate with software developers, network engineers, and content providers to build and optimize the infrastructure that supports popular streaming services. Their work is crucial for platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video.

How does an OTT engineer typically collaborate with content and product teams to ensure seamless streaming experiences?

OTT Engineers frequently work alongside content and product teams to align technical solutions with user experience goals. This collaboration involves regular meetings to discuss new features, address streaming quality issues, and integrate feedback from end-users. OTT Engineers may also assist with troubleshooting playback problems and ensuring that deployments meet both technical and content delivery requirements. Effective communication and cross-functional teamwork are key to delivering a reliable and engaging streaming platform.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an OTT engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as an OTT Engineer, you need expertise in video streaming technologies, content delivery networks (CDNs), and software development, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as FFmpeg, Wowza, AWS Media Services, and streaming protocols like HLS or DASH, as well as relevant certifications, is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills set top performers apart in this field. These abilities ensure reliable, scalable video delivery and a seamless user experience across multiple platforms.

THE POSITION
Our roster has an opening with your name on it

Are you passionate about the intersection of cloud technology and finance? As a Senior FinOps Engineer, you'll play a key role in optimizing cloud financial operations -- especially within our AWS and DataDog ecosystems-by aligning cloud investments with business goals and ensuring every dollar spent delivers value.

This isn't just about cost control-it's about using data and strategy to make impactful decisions that balance performance, security, and efficiency. You'll partner with cross-functional teams across Finance, Product, and Engineering, leading initiatives that improve cloud cost visibility, forecasting, and accountability.

If you're energized by solving complex challenges, love turning data into action, and thrive in a collaborative, ever-evolving environment-this role is for you.

Why You'll Love It Here

  • A culture that values innovation, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • A chance to make a measurable impact on business outcomes.
  • Opportunities to grow your expertise at the cutting edge of cloud and finance.
  • Supportive teammates who love solving tough problems together.

In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined above, employees may be required to perform other such duties as assigned by the Company. This ensures operational flexibility and allows the Company to meet evolving business needs.

THE GAME PLAN
Everyone on our team has a part to play

What You'll Do

  • Lead cloud financial management initiatives-cost optimization, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Analyze usage patterns and spending data to uncover insights and savings opportunities.
  • Own and manage cloud cost management tools and best practices.
  • Collaborate across teams to embed FinOps principles into the broader business strategy.
  • Create and enforce smart cloud usage policies that balance performance, cost, and security.
  • Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Stay ahead of the curve with AWS and DataDog offerings, pricing models, and cost trends.
  • Mentor teams on cloud financial best practices.
  • Define and track key metrics to continuously improve cloud efficiency.

THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate

  • 3+ years' experience driving effective FinOps practices at large cloud based organizations.
  • Deep experience in cloud financial management, with a focus on AWS and DataDog.
  • Cloud engineering or DevOps skills
  • Comfortable with Infrastructure as Code tooling, primarily Terraform
  • Strong analytical skills in financial reporting, forecasting, and cost modeling.
  • Solid understanding of AWS services and how they impact cost structures.
  • Excellent communication skills-you know how to explain complex ideas simply.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to influence across teams.
  • Experience with cloud cost management tools (e.g., Datadog Cloud Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer).
  • A proactive approach to identifying inefficiencies and driving improvements.
  • Bonus: Certifications in AWS, FinOps, or cloud financial management.
