How much do oswe certification jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 5, 2026, the average hourly pay for oswe certification in the United States is $19.31, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.59 and $21.15 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the OSWE certification?

The OSWE (Offensive Security Web Expert) certification is a web application penetration testing certification offered by Offensive Security. It demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in identifying, exploiting, and documenting security vulnerabilities in web applications. Candidates must complete the Advanced Web Attacks and Exploitation (AWAE) course and pass a rigorous 48-hour practical exam to earn the certification. The OSWE is recognized globally and is highly valued in the cybersecurity industry for its hands-on, real-world approach to web security testing.

What types of real-world challenges can I expect to encounter while preparing for the OSWE (Offensive Security Web Expert) certification?

While preparing for the OSWE certification, you’ll frequently tackle complex web application vulnerabilities that require both programming and penetration testing skills. Expect to analyze custom web application code, identify subtle security flaws, and craft exploits—often under time constraints similar to those in professional environments. Many candidates find the hands-on, self-directed nature of the exam challenging, so effective time management and persistence are essential. Collaboration with peers is uncommon during the assessment, but seeking feedback and guidance from the broader security community during preparation can be highly beneficial.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an OSWE-certified penetration tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as an OSWE-certified penetration tester, you need advanced knowledge of web application security, programming skills (especially in Python, JavaScript, and PHP), and a strong understanding of exploit development, typically demonstrated by earning the Offensive Security Web Expert (OSWE) certification. Familiarity with tools such as Burp Suite, SQLMap, and custom scripting environments is essential for carrying out sophisticated web attacks and vulnerability assessments. Analytical thinking, persistence, and clear documentation skills help professionals excel in uncovering complex vulnerabilities and communicating findings. These skills ensure effective identification and remediation of security risks, directly supporting organizational cybersecurity and compliance.

What is the difference between Oswe Certification vs Penetration Tester?

AspectOswe CertificationPenetration Tester
CredentialsOSWE certificationVaries; often includes certifications like CEH, OSCP
Work EnvironmentSecurity teams, cybersecurity firms, IT departmentsSecurity firms, consulting companies, internal security teams
Industry UsageUsed to validate advanced web application security skillsUsed to identify vulnerabilities through simulated attacks

The Oswe Certification focuses on advanced web application security and code review skills, while a Penetration Tester performs simulated attacks to identify vulnerabilities. Both roles require security knowledge, but Oswe emphasizes secure coding and application security testing, making it ideal for professionals aiming to specialize in application security assessments.

Penetration Tester For AI/ML Systems

7+ years of experience in penetration testing with a focus on AI/ML systems, including hands-on exploitation of vulnerabilities like adversarial attacks, model theft, and MCP-specific exploits using tools such as Burp Suite, Metasploit, or custom scripts required.

5+ years of offensive security expertise in AI environments, with deep knowledge of threats like prompt injection, data poisoning, evasion techniques, agentic system exploits (e.g., lateral movement, over-permissioned contexts), and Model Context Protocol (MCP) vulnerabilities required.

Proficiency in scripting and tool development (Python required; familiarity with TensorFlow/PyTorch for AI manipulation); experience integrating pen-tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitLab preferred).

Strong background in threat modeling for AI, including attack surface mapping, exploit chaining in agentic architectures, MCP security risks, and compliance with regulations like GDPR and emerging AI laws.

Expertise in cloud-native security testing (AWS preferred, with services like EC2, S3, and SageMaker) and big data environments for AI-scale attacks, including agentic and MCP integrations.
