Planning and Design Engineer
Location: Houston, TX (4 days in office)
Salary: $28.00-$30.00/hr.

Description of Role:
SRI Telecom is seeking a Planning and Design Engineer with an understanding of OSP mapping (reading and/or drafting) experience to contribute to all areas of outside plant (OSP) design. The successful consultant will be responsible for updating databases for tracking the acceptance of a job, the issuance of a design to a design contractor, tracking the receipt of the fielding, and QC acceptance. You will also provide cost estimating based on Comcast contracted rates, reserve fiber wavelengths and other milestone related objectives.
Tasks:
  • Review designs for OSP and ISP Fiber layouts, including Patch panel diagrams and cable rack layouts.
  • Generate bills of materials, splice sheets, and supporting documentation.
  • Review and ensure the accuracy and efficiency of completed designs.
  • Maintain design specifications and adhere to quality standards.
  • Analyze OTDR traces, document test results, and troubleshoot fiber circuits.
  • Identify efficiency gains in current processes and create technical documentation.
  • Support Specialists and leadership with fiber design documents, and address requests and complaints.
  • Advise, train, and guide other designers as needed.
  • Maintain regular attendance and perform other assigned duties.

Skills & Responsibilities:
  • Experience or the equivalent education/certification with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Spatial or IRIS is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of easement, right-of-way, and permit documents is preferred
  • Competence in design methodology, process, and metrics
  • Experience in designing and/or constructing telecommunications fiber networks is a must
  • Attention to detail and ability to think creatively and strategically is a must
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Must be able to work independently and without supervision
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with other team members
