Osp Design Software information

What is OSP Design Software?

OSP (Outside Plant) Design Software is a specialized tool used by telecommunications and utility companies to plan, design, and manage the infrastructure located outside of buildings, such as cables, conduits, poles, and other network components. This software streamlines the design process, helps ensure regulatory compliance, and optimizes resource allocation for fiber optic or copper networks. It often includes features for mapping, cost estimation, and project management, making it easier for engineers and planners to collaborate and efficiently build or upgrade networks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an OSP Design Software specialist?

To thrive as an OSP (Outside Plant) Design Software Specialist, you need a strong background in telecommunications engineering, network design, and familiarity with industry standards, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Proficiency with OSP-specific design tools like Bentley Comms, AutoCAD, and GIS platforms is essential, along with knowledge of fiber optic and copper network infrastructure. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate with cross-functional teams and address complex design challenges. These skills ensure the accurate, efficient, and compliant planning of telecom networks, which is critical for timely project delivery and network reliability.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working with OSP design software in the telecommunications industry?

Professionals using OSP (Outside Plant) design software often encounter challenges such as keeping up with evolving industry standards, managing large and complex network maps, and ensuring data accuracy when integrating with GIS systems. Collaboration with field teams and other engineering departments can also be demanding, as seamless communication is crucial for timely project delivery. Additionally, adapting to frequent software updates and new functionalities requires ongoing learning and flexibility.

What is the difference between Osp Design Software vs Civil Engineer?

AspectOsp Design SoftwareCivil Engineer
Primary RoleDesigning and planning infrastructure projects using software toolsPlanning, designing, and overseeing construction of infrastructure projects
Required CredentialsSoftware proficiency, technical trainingEngineering degree, licensure
Work EnvironmentDesign offices, project sitesConstruction sites, offices
Industry UsageUsed by civil engineers and designersEmploys design software like Osp Design Software

Osp Design Software is a specialized tool used by civil engineers to create detailed infrastructure designs. Civil engineers are professionals who utilize such software to plan and oversee projects. While Osp Design Software focuses on the technical design aspect, civil engineers encompass broader responsibilities including project management and site supervision.

What does an OSP Design Software engineer do?

An OSP Design Software engineer develops and maintains software tools used for designing outdoor fiber optic and telecommunications networks. They work with CAD and GIS applications to create accurate network layouts, often collaborating with engineers and field teams to ensure efficient deployment. Proficiency in programming, network planning, and understanding of telecommunications infrastructure are essential skills for this role.

Job description

About Fluidstack

We exist to make humanity more free. For most of human history, you farmed or you starved. Technology gave people more time for the things they wanted to do, instead of things they had to do. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice we've ever built - but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. There are groups building AI who don't share these goals. Whoever deploys frontier compute infrastructure fastest will decide whether AI expands human freedom or shrinks it.

We're singularly focused on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else, rethinking every layer of the stack. We acquire power, design and build data centers, and operate them - with teams spanning hardware and software. Speed and scale are our key differentiators. Come be a part of building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI.

We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply!

How We Operate
  • Extreme ownership. Full autonomy. Own things end to end often taking on scope outside your core role without being asked to get things done.

  • Velocity. We drive everything forward as fast as possible.

  • First principles. Challenge every assumption. Zero analogy thinking, no egos, the best idea wins.

  • Love of the game. The frontier of AI is the most interesting problem of our time. We put in long hours at high intensity to push the frontier forward.

The Infrastructure Team

Examples of key problems the team is working on

  • Design the physical layer AGI is trained on. ISP/OSP cable plants carry hundreds of thousands of fiber terminations per building, rail-optimized for the densest GPU fabrics ever built, at 800G today and 1.6T next.

  • One design, every site. Turn the cable plant from a bespoke months-long exercise into a stamped reference architecture deployed across 10s to 100s of GWs of capacity, validated once and built everywhere.

  • Design for silicon that doesn't exist yet. Every GPU generation rewrites the density, optics, and pathway math, but the plant you spec must survive three of them.

Role Scope
  • Own the end-to-end physical implementation of the data center network: fiber plant architecture, transceiver planning, and structured cabling integration for hyperscale sites.

  • Collaborate with CSA, MEP, and construction teams on power, cooling, space, pathways, cabinets, and racks, and develop, read, and interpret construction drawings in Bluebeam, ACC, and Procore.

  • Break down DCN logical port maps (TOR, spine, super-spine, DCI) into physical cross-connect and patching schedules, and automate port-to-fiber mapping at 100K+ ports per site.

  • Define cassette types (MTP/MPO Base-8/12/16), trunk counts, and structured cabling hierarchy, and model fiber utilization and overbuild for two to three hardware generations.

  • Select optics (400G/800G DR4, FR4, LR4, SR8, coherent DCI) by reach and loss budget, validate interoperability across vendors and generations, and maintain loss-budget and margin models for every link type.

  • Own the ICT Basis of Design, SOPs, and Division 26/27/28/33 master specifications, and integrate with DCIM (NetBox, custom tools) to track strands, ports, and patching.

What We're Looking For

The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.

  • You've designed hyperscale or cloud-provider data center networks (1000+ racks, 100K+ fiber strands).

  • You're expert in structured cabling systems (Corning, Panduit, CommScope) and MPO/MTP ecosystems.

  • You know optical standards (IEEE 802.3, OIF) and transceiver technologies (400G/800G DR4, FR4, LR4, SR8) deeply.

  • You command fiber loss budgets, dispersion, and testing methodologies (OTDR, insertion loss, polarity verification).

  • You integrate designs into DCIM tools (NetBox, Remedy, or custom hyperscaler equivalents).

  • Bonus: RCDD certification. Coherent DCI. Multi-generation optics roadmapping.

Salary & Benefits
  • Competitive total compensation package (salary + equity).

  • Retirement or pension plan, in line with local norms.

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.

  • Generous PTO policy, in line with local norms.

Total compensation may also include equity in the form of stock options.

We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
