Job description

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years in a pre-sales engineering, consulting, solutions architecture, or utility OT engineering role
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into integrated technology solutions across electric utility, gas utility, and enterprise operational environments
  • Strong background in Utility Operational Technology (OT) environments, including hands-on familiarity with electric grid and gas operational systems such as:
  • SCADA & Industrial Control Systems: GE/Emerson SCADA, OSIsoft/AVEVA, or equivalent industrial control platforms supporting electric and gas utility operations
  • Grid & Gas Control Systems: Energy Management Systems (EMS), Distribution Management Systems (DMS), Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), Outage Management Systems (OMS), gas monitoring and control systems, pipeline telemetry, and pressure management platforms
  • Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI 2.0): Smart meter platforms, head-end systems, Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS), and utility data integration platforms from providers such as Itron and Landis+Gyr
  • Utility Communications & Networking: Field Area Networks (FAN), RF Mesh, private LTE (pLTE), industrial wireless communications, IP/MPLS routing, and industrial networking platforms from providers such as Nokia and Cisco
  • Industrial & Utility Protocols: IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870-5-101/104, ICCP (TASE.2), and industrial telemetry protocols used in electric and gas utility operations
  • OT Cybersecurity: NERC CIP compliance, IEC 62443 framework, Purdue Reference Model, OT/IT network segmentation, and cybersecurity principles for critical utility infrastructure
  • DERMS, Grid Edge & Operational Automation: Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), distributed automation, grid edge intelligence, pipeline monitoring, leak detection technologies, and operational analytics platforms
  • Operational Data Platforms & GIS: OSIsoft PI System / AVEVA Data Hub, GIS platforms for utility asset mapping, substation automation technologies, protective relay systems, and operational reporting/analytics solutions
  • Experience developing Statements of Work (SOW), Bills of Materials (BOM), Proofs of Concept (POC), and professional services Level of Effort (LOE) estimates
  • Strong communication, presentation, whiteboarding, and executive briefing skills with the ability to engage both technical and business stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and industry experience

Preferred
  • Direct utility industry experience supporting electric grid, gas utility, or multi-utility operational environments in an OT engineering, architecture, systems integration, or consulting capacity
  • Understanding of utility modernization drivers including clean energy integration, DER adoption, grid resiliency, wildfire mitigation, pipeline safety modernization, operational reliability, and infrastructure hardening initiatives
  • Prior delivery or hands-on engineering experience in OT systems deployment, systems integration, commissioning, or operational support within utility environments
  • Experience supporting utility modernization programs involving SCADA, DERMS, ADMS, AMI, GIS, pipeline operations, industrial networking, or OT cybersecurity initiatives
  • Familiarity with utility ecosystem partners and technologies including GE Vernova, AVEVA, Itron, Landis+Gyr, Cisco, and Nokia technologies and platforms

Certain states and localities require employers to post a reasonable estimate of salary range. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $150,000.00 to $200,000.00 annually. This role is OTE-eligible, with additional variable compensation provided on top of the base salary. Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors, including shift, location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Certain positions may also be eligible for variable incentive compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, that is not included in the base pay.

As a Consulting Systems Engineer (CSE), you will partner with Client Managers to provide technical pre-sales leadership for our utility and enterprise customers across Southern California. No two days will be the same - our broad portfolio includes Operational Technology (OT) Modernization, Artificial Intelligence, Infrastructure Modernization, Automation, Multi-Cloud Architecture, and Security Transformation.
With our Advanced Technology Center (https://wwt.com/atc) at your fingertips for workshops, demos, and proofs of concept, you will act as a trusted advisor-helping customers evaluate, architect, and adopt modern technology solutions.
What will you be doing?
The CSE brings technical expertise and consultative leadership to customer engagements in the local market. Daily responsibilities include:
  • Leading technical discussions in customer sales meetings, presentations, and whiteboard sessions
  • Capturing customer requirements and mapping them to modern, integrated utility solutions across electric grid, gas operations, and enterprise OT environments
  • Designing OT and operational solution architectures aligned to utility modernization initiatives, operational reliability, resiliency, pipeline safety, and clean energy transformation outcomes
  • Supporting utility customers across Grid and Gas operational systems including SCADA, DERMS, ADMS, EMS, OMS, AMI, GIS, pipeline monitoring, leak detection, pressure management, field mobility, and industrial communications platforms
  • Developing Statements of Work (SOW), Proofs of Concept (POC), Bills of Materials (BOM), and Level of Effort (LOE) estimates for professional services engagements
  • Partnering with local Client Executives to build long-term customer relationships and trusted advisor status within utility operations and IT/OT organizations
  • Collaborating with ecosystem partners including Nokia, Cisco, GE Vernova, Itron, Landis+Gyr, AVEVA, and World Wide Technology field engineering teams on utility OT and infrastructure engagements
  • Staying ahead of emerging trends in grid modernization, gas utility modernization, DERMS, AMI 2.0, private LTE (pLTE), edge compute, operational analytics, and OT cybersecurity
  • Supporting executive strategy conversations, operational transformation workshops, and hands-on technical sessions for utility customers
  • Up to 25% travel expected
