Job description

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Working closely with the Director of the Simon and June Li Center for Global Journalism, this part-time role would be responsible for OSINT programs, including running bi-weekly OSINT seminars/workshops open to students, the Columbia community and public, while also helping recruit students interested in OSINT journalism, creating curriculum for those workshops, fundraising for OSINT programming and OSINT-related job opportunities for students, and creating partnerships between the Li Center and OSINT publications to foster collaborations and job opportunities for graduating students and recent alumni.
Responsibilities
  • In tandem with the Li Center Director, designing and teaching a bi-weekly OSINT seminar series that introduces OSINT technologies to those new to the field, as well as offering more advanced content via select workshops;

  • Staying abreast of current OSINT tools and practices, and revising and enhancing curriculum accordingly;

  • Speaking to both current and prospective students interested in OSINT journalism;

  • Advising students on OSINT-related resources and ethical questions;

  • Acting as an in-house resource and providing guidance on OSINT technologies for students, faculty, and staff;

  • Furthering cross-center collaboration with other centers engaged in/with OSINT-related journalism;

  • Collaborating with established OSINT publications to create new internships and job opportunities for students focused on OSINT journalism;

  • Work with the Li Center Director to identify additional organizations and/or opportunities for students interested in OSINT journalism;

  • Serving as a public face for donor questions around OSINT-related journalism.

  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of related experience; preferably in OSINT-specific journalism that has generated impact;

  • Strong working knowledge of a compendium of OSINT tools, skills and methodologies, including geolocation and chronolocation; content verification techniques, content monitoring and preservation skills, mapping tools; and more;

  • A strong grasp of editorial ethics, practices and journalistic standards.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A history of working with students and others learning OSINT journalism
