They work behind the scenes in clinics, hospitals, or specialized labs, using materials like plastics, metals, and leather to create devices that help patients regain mobility and function. These technicians play a vital role in improving the quality of life for individuals with physical disabilities or limb loss.

To thrive as an Orthotics Prosthetics Technician, you need a solid understanding of anatomy, fabrication techniques, and materials, often supported by a technical diploma or associate degree in orthotics and prosthetics technology. Familiarity with specialized tools, CAD/CAM software, and industry standards is essential, and ABC or BOC certification is often preferred. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and effective communication with clinicians and patients are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure the precise creation and fitting of devices, directly impacting patient mobility and quality of life.
