Primary Function

The Director of Orthodontic Operations' primary responsibility is to provide strategic oversight and mentorship of Operations, while also being directly responsible for the operational and financial success of multiple dental practices across the United States. The Director of Orthodontic Operations serves operating Dentist owners by holding direct reports accountable to day-to-day practices that meet immediate needs while positioning the practice for growth. The Director of Orthodontic Operations is skilled and experienced at creating annual budgets, strategic planning, project management, talent calibration, growth and development plans, financial statement analysis, verbal and written communication, and modeling professional, ethical, and highest standards of behavior.  

** This is a remote position with required travel approximately 50% of the time. **

Essential Responsibilities

  • Model outstanding service to clients, including superior written, verbal, and other communication skills. Identify team member strengths and areas of opportunity related to leadership and management skills. Train, coach, and mentor team members to optimal service excellence
  • Interview, hire, and retain top-tier talent in partnership with human resources to ensure staffing needs are met, turnover is controlled and decreasing year over year, and team members grow throughout the organization
  • On-board all team members to seamlessly integrate into the dynamic business environment while continuing to meet the business needs
  • Train operations team members to perform duties in a timely and accurate manner while auditing work to confirm quality and provide additional training as needed
  • Hold team members accountable to published and clearly defined goals related to business and/or growth and development plans
  • Partner with operating owners and executive leadership to make operational decisions to benefit the dental practice. 
  • Understand, analyze, and action plan key performance metrics to successfully lead and grow the multi-unit business within an assigned territory
  • Review operating performance results and take immediate steps to implement corrective action as needed while creating and executing long-term strategic plans
  • Partner with dedicated corporate departments and executive team members to design sustainable and scalable programs  
  • Be strategic. Understand operational areas of opportunity, create action plans, and execute plans to grow and enhance the business
  • Organize all projects, initiatives, and programs via project charters; share updates at regular and timely meetings while tailoring the message to specific audiences
  • Thoroughly understand key performance indicators and drivers that affect key metrics
  • Thoroughly understand benchmarks and standards for key business indicators and, when out of line, course correct for immediate correction and sustained performance 
  • Assess practice needs and strategically plan to make improvements 
  • Keep up to date on industry trends, related current events, and best practices 
  • Hold team members accountable for annual training requirements, performance reviews, and other company requirements 
  • Provide thoughtful, documented, timely, and helpful feedback to direct reports, focusing on solutions, continuous improvement, and positivity 

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in the orthodontic field is required
  • 2+ years of multi-site experience is required
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities
  • Proficiency in delegation and remote management
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of effective communication across all organizational levels
