Job description

BIOFerm™ is currently looking for an Equipment Engineer to support the design, specification, procurement, and implementation of mechanical and process equipment for BIOFerm’s renewable energy projects. This role ensures that equipment is properly selected, integrated, and optimized for reliable, long-term operation. The ideal candidate combines strong technical and analytical skills with hands-on experience in mechanical systems, process design, and vendor coordination.

BIOFerm™ is a Wisconsin-based renewable energy company specializing in turnkey anaerobic digestion and biogas upgrading facilities. Our mission is to provide sustainable and economical solutions for organic waste diversion, transforming food waste, manure, biosolids, and other organic materials into renewable natural gas (RNG), green energy, vehicle fuel, heat, and organic products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, specify, and evaluate mechanical and process equipment for anaerobic digestion and biogas systems, including pumps, compressors, blowers, heat exchangers, tanks, and gas upgrading equipment.
  • Prepare and review equipment data sheets, P&IDs, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure proper equipment selection, compatibility, and installation.
  • Develop and maintain equipment documentation, including operation manuals, technical specifications, and maintenance procedures.
  • Support vendor selection and review of equipment proposals, bids, and technical submittals including reviewing Vendor drawings, procedures and qualifications.
  • Manage Vendors to ensure on schedule equipment manufacturing and delivery, and coordinate with the construction site to ensure installation schedule is met.
  • Perform equipment inspections and factory acceptance tests (FAT) as required.
  • Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and start-up phases.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process performance issues in collaboration with field and service teams.
  • Support the development of standard equipment designs and best practices for future projects.
  • Assist in cost estimation, proposal development, and client presentations as needed.
  • Travel occasionally to project sites and vendor facilities for inspections, meetings, and commissioning activities.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.
Competencies & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 2–5 years of relevant engineering experience in industrial, utility, or renewable energy sectors.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and process systems such as fluid handling, gas treatment, pressure vessels, and thermal systems.
  • Experience working with P&IDs, CAD drawings, and equipment design tools.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (ASME, API, ASTM, etc.).
  • Strong project coordination and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with AutoCAD or similar design software preferred.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to interface effectively between engineering design and field operations.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Valid authorization to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
