Department of Revenue is recruiting for a Public Service Representative 4 position. We are looking for a talented, detail-oriented individual to join our Personal Tax & Compliance Division in the Compliance Section. This position is headquartered in our Portland office; however, the successful candidate may be eligible for in-state hybrid work. Hybrid work consists of performing duties onsite in a standard office environment and working remotely. In order to be considered for Department of Revenue recruitments, you must reside within the state of Oregon. Current Revenue employees who live outside of Oregon may apply and will be considered.

• Review personal income tax accounts, verify compliance, and issue official certification letters for taxpayers and partner agencies.
• Assist taxpayers by answering questions, explaining forms, and providing guidance in person, by phone, and through written correspondence.
• Conduct post‑processing audits of tax returns, review financial documents, apply tax laws, and issue adjustments or determinations.
• Work with internal teams and external agencies to resolve complex tax compliance issues and support statewide tax programs.
• Process IRS‑based adjustments, update taxpayer accounts, and prepare notices, refunds, and billing corrections.
• Review written objections and appeals, evaluate taxpayer information, and issue clear and accurate determinations.

Three years of experience performing public contact and/or customer service duties comparable to the work of a Public Service Representative. At least two years of this experience must include dealing with the public in‑person or by phone providing information about services and programs; explaining rules, programs, and procedures; and/or providing assistance, explaining requirements, and gaining compliance.

• Effective communication with internal and external customers through multiple channels.
• Strong customer service skills in both in‑person and phone interactions.
• Ability to collaborate successfully with various individuals, work units, and agencies.
• Skilled in core administrative and analytical tasks, including writing correspondence, making independent decisions, using databases, explaining rules, and reviewing data.
• Ability to clearly explain and interpret laws, rules, policies, and procedures to the public.
• Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or frustrated customers and de‑escalate situations.
• Proven tax background with independent experience resolving tax compliance or audit‑related cases.

The salary listed is the non‑PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.
