Job description

PARR is the total source for homebuilding supplies, solutions, and services. We focus on supplying building materials and solutions to professional home builders of all sizes including custom builders, large production builders, and multifamily builders. Pay:$20.16-$24.51 hourly
The Truss Lumber Picker is responsible for the accurate and timely pulling of lumber as well as the catching and stacking of parts coming off the saw machine. The Truss Lumber Picker works closely with the Sawyer to ensure all parts coming off the saw are cut to the right length and free of defects.
This position reports to the Sawyer, Lead Sawyer, Ops Lead, Production Manager, Assistant Plant Manager, or Plant Manager. This position supports our mission of Legendary Service Through Teamwork by providing team members with damage free product and ensuring all parts are cut to length to ensure our customers are getting the best product possible.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspects materials for damage prior to use i.e. cracks in the boards, too much wane, mold, sun damage, etc.
  • Uses a "pull sheet' to go around the yard pulling the appropriate lumber for the forklift driver to load in the appropriate order
  • Uses a tape measurer to ensure all parts are cut to the correct length or are within the stated tolerance
  • Labels parts clearly and legibly for ease of identification while staged in the yard
  • Completes any required training
  • Conducts and daily cleaning of the lumber are as well as maintaining it throughout the day to minimize tripping hazards
  • Having knowledge of and the ability to identify different species and grades of lumber
  • Works with the Forklift Operator in an efficient manner
  • Represents the company in a positive and professional manner
  • Exhibits thoroughness and accuracy
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Assists in overall cleanliness of the location
  • Replaces all unreadable labels for easy identification by yard members
  • Flexibility to work for extended hours as needed
  • Remains solution focused
  • Regularly takes the initiative or volunteers to solve issues
  • Ensures all parts are free of defects before being delivered to the Truss Fabricators to allow them to work quickly and efficiently with little to no downtime.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Must be able to accurately read and use a tape measure
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English required
  • Ability to follow procedures precisely
  • Ability to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy work environment
  • Ability to work independently and without supervision
  • Shoes that are puncture resistant, slip resistant, made of leather or composite material, and have ankle support required

Working Conditions

The Truss Lumber Puller works mostly outside in mostly all weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and/or stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 100 pounds and carry objects 50 feet
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to utilize all appropriate safety equipment
